Peak Oil flash movie

Postby Sencha » Thu 16 Sep 2004, 06:43:30

I was just on Newgrounds and I watched a teaser for a flash film called Fallen Angel, and the first thing that came to my mind was how much it looked like the world would after the oil crash.

As I was watching it, I thought to myself that the author perfectly captured what it was going to be like. I don't know what the author's original intention was, and what the actual story is, but there is a frightening resemblance to what many people envision the world to be like after it happens.

This is a preview of things to come, a good film to watch to prepare yourself.

Just the same old shootings, guns, assault weapons, tanks, blood everywhere, and believe it or not... car crashings! 8O

Barbara, don't break your own rule and turn this into another gun thread. :)

Oh no not guns AND assault weapons!

Uh, what exactly is the difference between an "assault weapon" and a semi auto rifle? Like a .22 cal plinker?

Appearance, and a larger magazine Functionally, they have no difference. If I got my .22 Winchester and replaced the stock with a feather light, added a flash suppressor, and had a 25 round magazine, it would legally be classified as an assault weapon even though no difference has been made as far as core functionality. The only changes that would be made would be a more "intimidating" appearance. That is all the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 did. And no, you cannot legally buy a fully automatic AK-47 just because of the expiration of the Clinton Assault Weapons Ban. To do so legally, you must posses a Class III Federal Firearms Permit, pay a tax of $200.00 per restricted weapon, and have the chief of police in your jurisdiction personally sign papers allowing you to import the restricted weapon into your locale.

jato,
it's impossible not to break the rule: they fly bullets from the first to the very last second of the movie! What else should I speak about? The blond haircut?

But the thing which made me laugh a lot is the car crashing... they can't stop car crashing even in a post-peak world!!! Very original!!

Barbara, I take it you're criticizing the film.

Well, you may have that luxury now, but we'll see how critical you are when you're starring in your own version of it.

Also keep in mind, it was a preview of the author's larger production. If you've ever been to the movies, you know thats how teasers are supposed to be. 8O

Sencha,
I think you are talking of my post-Peak life. Well, in THAT realistic version of the movie they'll shoot at me riding bycycles! But I agree, on a trailer those terrific bandits shooting from bycyles would not drive much people to the theaters.

Seemingly, one cannot come equipped as a male and avoid thinking/talking about guns. Quirk of Nature maybe? It begs the question: "Is there a corresponding female analogy?"

I know I haven't seen the movie yet, but the impression I'm getting from the teaser is a "Mad Max" with a graphic language deleted..
Still looks like it'll be interesting.

I don't know how you Americans define things, but from what I know, an "assault weapon" has a fully-auto mode that can empty a typical 30-round magazine in less than half a minute.

Not exactly like what you see in the movies (Rambo, etc. bang bang bang bang for the next 15 minutes into the scene).

In real life, the darn magazine empties quite fast. But in a pinch, fully-auto mode can be quite devastating in that you can spray a hail of bullets, albeit rather haphazardly.

Semi-auto mode usually fires one bullet at a time. If you take care to aim carefully ....

.... oops, "gun thread", "gun thread"!!! sorry

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Itch', 'I') know I haven't seen the movie yet, but the impression I'm getting from the teaser is a "Mad Max" with a big-titted, blonde girl, rather than a loony, Jew and Protestant-hating Catholic.

Still looks like it'll be interesting.

At least that blonde girl looks pretty hot.

Lowem, hehe I was being fascicous -
there is no difference... the so called "assault weapons" are the same as any old semi auto rifle - the military full auto "battle rifles" haven't been legal in the US since 1934. so called "assault weapons" have been available even with the "assault weapons" ban in place - the only thing it banned was the IMPORTATION of large capacity mags, some types of stocks, etc... useless law... you could even buy pre-ban stuff all these past years - it just was more expensive... and now all these idiots are shrieking that our streets are going to be flooded with assault weapons! eeeee! idiots. Same stuff had been available all during the "ban"... which did nothing....
