I think it might not be such a bad idea, but I also think Tyler has a good point about it hurting the image of the site. This is probably something someone should take up on their own, creating a new site entirely. I see one potential problem though. What happens if the dating site is flooded with people who don't believe in Peak Oil, and are only there to berate those that do?

Oh that's right, I forgot, you singles are going to have to go it alone now since we can't possibly risk the creation of another human. How about if all singles are forced into sterilization. They'll have identify cards that confirm their sterilization, and if unsterilized couples are found together the police can throw them in jail? We could do that with all fertile people, for that matter, married or not. And once in jail they'll get their sterilizations, by God!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('LadyRuby', 'A')ctually I think it's a good idea. I'm happily (mostly) married, but could see that it would be ideal for single people to meet someone who shares some of the same concerns. I have a single friend who's a very good catch though!!!

Then I look at them.

The end of the world is nigh. ok, close the tab.

The end of the world is nigh. ok, no offense if I had of seen that person on the street I would totally ignore them. close the tab.

The end of the world is nigh. WHAT! An
American Scientist article saying "The end of the world is nigh".

I know peak oil is real, but please can't I just be delusional just a little while longer?

Re: Single POers

A single PO forum would be good, not for dating per say, but to talk about how single people will deal with the coming crisis. Many of us that are single, no family, no children or spouse, may not have that extended support system that married people do. A single forum would be good to put fourth and discuss our individual situations and look for advice from others. What do you guys think?

As a single PO moderate my situation is such: 29, single, male, graphic designer working as a contractor, living in the DC metro area.

I dont have much in terms of material possesions, no home to fortify, no farm, no bomb shelter and dont really have the means to up and move to vermont. Since I'm so close to a major city, when things get bad, I know I'm going to be in trouble.

Right now all I can afford to do is to prepare an "emergency kit" of maybe a couple of months rations and water.

The only plus to being single I can see at the moment is that I've been thinking of applying for citizenship or a work visa to some of the many PO havens that have been debated about here in the forums: New Zealand, Canada, Switzerland, France, etc.

Comments/Criticisms welcome

Is this one of those ads that require someone to send in a pic of their gun and "bug out bag"?

I thought they wanted a pic of the boat and out-board motor. Hmmmm....I really find these modern "personals" confusing.

Seriously, though, it must be hard for hard core peak oilers to develop new romantic relationships. I mean, most people, maybe Americans especially, think that having fun with a potential partner is pretty important. If you start talking about PO too soon, the other person is likely to take you for a survivalist lunatic and go running, or at the very least find that it's not too fun to hang around you.

At the same time I know PO is on my mind a lot, as I assume it is for others here, and it would be hard not to bring it up. I guess in that respect those of us who had spouses before we really understood PO are lucky, because our spouses know us, know we're not terminally pessimistic or lunatic. Or if they do they're kind of stuck with us (unless they choose not to be, of course).

Yes, I think single peak oilers, more than the average Joes, would need some extra help forming relationships, and meeting others of like minds could be helpful.

See the peakoiler is better off, he has clothes and is still standing. The others in the picture are poor without any clothes laying in the dirt.

Yeh, but the two walking don't seem to be suffering too much. The Peakoiler is working like hell carring that sign around on the sand. Tough guy.

I suspect the next image will be him throwing the sign away and joining the party with those babes. :-D

Re. worries that a singles column will hurt the image of this site: Are you serious? We already have a few overt nazis hanging around here spouting master-race BS, and plenty of other people who would be written off as wackos by the mainstream culture.

So I say, let's go for it as long as the language stays PG-rated. And with that:

Single gay male seeks LTR.

San Francisco / Oakland California area.

May relocate to rural area, probably northern California.

For more about me, see my numerous postings.

If interested, post here or send private message.

Now that wasn't so bad, was it?:-)
