WANT TO ADD: Just because someone runs/states/seems to be a democrat/republican liberal/conservative does not mean they actually are and that they will vote down the line as one.
Rehnquist was a conservative yet he seemed to fear a world where everyone thought like he did so when he saw his side winning he would get all dysfunctional
Ultimately If he would of had his way, Rehnquist would have minimized or completely destroyed the "wall" (OR what little is left of it) that is the seperation of church and state and he would have overturned abortion roe vs. wade.
Oddly he believed californians should not have to worry about federal agents taking their pot away = limit the power of the federal government
