I got one of those chain email letters (for the hundredth time) with a scheme to lower gas prices (and punish Saudi Arabia) by boycotting gasoline companies selling Saudi oil based product and buying from everyone else.
THIS TIME I DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I forwarded the following to every email address that was in the original letter. (probably a couple hundred)
Am I wasting my time? Would you do something similar? If so you are welcome to copy and paste my letter.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')reetings everyone,
Recently my niece sent me, and all of you a forwarded email that
contains a scheme to boycott certain gasoline sellers in favor of others
in the hopes this would reduce fuel prices. I'm sure she meant well, but
I'm sure most of you realize it would be a futile effort. The "approved"
companies would quickly run out of gas and buy more from the only ones
that had any left-the boycotted companies. The prices wouldn't change.
I think it is important that everyone should have a deeper understanding
of what is really happening in the oil industry. What is happening is
that worldwide oil production is losing it's ability to grow its rate of
output due to the cold, hard facts of geology and resource depletion. We
are reaching a point where the production of oil will remain flat for
some time, and then begin to slowly and irreversibly decline. No amount
of investment or application of new technology has a real chance of
stopping this trend.
This phenomenon is referred to as "Peak Oil". Peak Oil is perhaps by
far the most important thing that most of you have never heard about.
Peak Oil will have far more profound effects on our future than most of
you can imagine. The reason I am writing this is because I want to
encourage everyone to educate themselves about Peak Oil.
I recommend you visit some of the following sites:
http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.nethttp://www.peakoil.comhttp://www.theoildrum.comhttp://www.peakoil.orghttp://www.energybulletin.netor simply do a google search for "Peak Oil"
If you have Netflix, I recommend you rent the documentary "End Of
Suburbia"
Some of the things you learn may be difficult to accept. But when you
understand the reality of our energy situation, you will be much better
equipped to prepare for the future well being of yourselves and your
families.
Best Wishes,
(me)
