This is terrible! I didn't know that a rattlesnake bite was so damaging!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ost rattlesnake bites contain hemotoxic elements which damage tissue and affect the circulatory system by destroying blood cells, skin tissues and causing internal hemorrhaging.

I didnt know it was that bad either!

Now, I'm somewhat skeptical on this. Not that it didnt happen or anything, but the guy was 13 when it happened and it was a diamondback.
Your talking about a kid facing the largest rattlers in North America. Now I dont know, and hope to never find out, but I suspect this is something of a "worst case" type of deal.
Granted, it does give you some insight into how dangerous a rattler can be, but I'm not sure if this would be an example of every bite.

I almost stepped on one once in the mountains. Nobody around for maybe a mile, out mapping rocks; walking backwards I looked back and had my foot above a few inch ledge and below was a long rattlesnake with its tail up shaking furious. I didn't hear it and came within a split second of standing on it. Hot footed away from the big one and almost stepped into a bunch of little ones.

Specop_007 wonders why in the hell someone would be out maping rocks.......

I too nearly was a victim of a rattlesnake bite.

A number of years ago I was out on a hiking/camping excursion with my brothers and some friends. We were in extremely rough, rocky terrain and a two-day hike from civilization. As I was stepping down, using the large boulders as a sort of meandering stair/step, I noticed a huge coiled rattler, just where I was about to step. I literally leaped over the rattler in a single bound, which by then had noticed me and was furiously rattling his tail. I was way out of his reach but he just kept buzzing away.

My adrenaline was pumping like crazy and I was shaking like a leaf. I don't like snakes to begin with, and when you nearly are a victim of one - it ain't funny.

My brothers and friends, many yards up the rocky rubble pile had seen my "jump" to avoid the snake and they were all slapping their knees and laughing at me. Assholes.

By the time they climbed down to where I was, the snake was gone. But my "friends" and brothers just kept on laughing at me - they thought it was hilarious.

I had no idea that a rattler bite could cause that much damage to human flesh.

Thanks to Specop_007, I now, after many years, will get revenge on those laughing assholes. None of these (tough) guys can stomach graphic depictions of human physical injury.

I'm going to send them each a link to that site. No text. No message, just that link pasted into an email. I hope they all puke their guts out.

Hahahahaha! Sweet revenge.

I keep snakes and to think, I've even considered keeping rattlers for pets. They're sooooo cute!

Rattlesnake bites have a wide range of effects depending on the person and species of snake, but that is the worst I've ever seen.

Did you know that adult squirrels in the SW USA are almost immune to all rattlesnake venom? The little critters are much more resistant than us big humans. Most humans have virtually no natural resistance since we aren't exposed to any quantity of the venom in our environment except for the odd case.

There was a guy around here who kept cobras and sold the venom to labs. He got bit once and though it was serious, there was a pleasurable trance associated which steered his mind towards a second encounter with cobra venom. The second time it killed him.
