Motor Oil Price??

Unread postby NonToxic » Wed 17 Aug 2005, 12:23:17

If the price increases are due to crude shortages, or refining is too slow for demand, why do we not see a motor oil price increase?

In the US, motor oil recycling was instituted years ago by the government.
I expect it's the same in many countries.

A large portion of the motor oil we use is recycled. Quaker State, Valvoline - it's filtered and recycled.

Also, obviously, alot more fuel is used by the gallon than motor oil by the quart. Leave it to economics to pay a higher price for that which we need more of.

That said, it will go up as soon as a motor oil producer notices what's going on.

I know that the oil itself is not the best of all lubricants...it's the additives they put in the oil that lubricates the engine so well.

So i'm guessing that the oil portion of motor oil isn't that large of an expense as opposed to the additives.

That's only a guess though...to be honest i've been wondering the same thing.

I have noticed that the store brand Discount Auto HD40 oil has had a price increase from 70 cents to 90 cents when on sale.

Regular price is up to $1.28
