Does anyone here have any favorite replies from conservative Rush Limbaugh listening, Hummer driving, Bush voting, flag wavers when the topic of oil production or gas prices comes up?

My faves ...

1. There's plenty of oil in Russia and Canada. Nothing to worry about.
2. We'll just bomb somewhere else and take it!
3. It's those enviroweenies who won't let us build new refineries!
4. It's those liberal tax and spend Democrats with all their gas taxes!
5. It's those Chinese and Indians who think they can have cars and refrigerators!

"There are 1 trillion barrels of oil trapped in shale the US".

My googling Kerogen production and posting excerpts from various sources, including wikipedia on another conservative message board got me labeled as a liar and a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist.

That type of denial concerns and frightens me for our prospects for the future.

Shale oil my ass.

Yep, I've tried to talk to people about this situation and they say there is plenty of oil to drill for in the USA. We just don't drill it.

I guess we didn't peak in the 70's afterall. We just stopped pumping and decided to import more for the hell of it. 8O

Change republican [sic] for democrat [sic], change a few other words, and the thing works as well, as do the vast majority of the other responses.
===> please don't limit your disdain, expand your horizons, and please, give all hell, as they deserve it.

Im a right-winger and I don't beleive any of that trash. If invading Iraq is the US's mitigation strategy, then we're doomed.

The opening post seems to imply only Americans need reply…
I haven’t spoken to anyone who voted Bush, but there’s plenty of right-wingers around here with too much invested to let a little thing like PO worry them...

After trying (and apparently failing) to explain the bell curve of oil production: “no but you see, what always happens is that as one curve peaks, a new curve begins and takes it’s place…”

Then there’s the endless technology will save us replies. I think that’s just the natural first reaction.

Oh, and one guy said “All we need to do is drill more holes. Simple.” And yes, he was serious.

14. Damn! We're in serious trouble!

That was my reaction. I am a conservative, Christian, right-wing, card carrying member of the NRA and I see the huge problems that Peak Oil presents. We need to stop the partisan politics and "right vs. left" thinking immediately because we are all going to be sitting in the dark together if we don't start reigning in our energy use and coming up with viable alternatives.

I am not environmentalist. I don't subscribe to either global warming or ozone depletion (at least not as a result of mankind's emissions). I don't subscribe to them because the science behind them is incomplete at best. The science behind Peak Oil is rock solid (no pun intended). There are other conservatives that see this (Matthew Simmons, other on this board, etc.) but when they come here they get ridiculed. That has to stop if there is going to be any hope for mankind.

Conservatives will listen to facts. The biggest complant right-wingers have with left-wingers is that their arguments are usually emotion based. I didn't subscribe to Peak Oil either until I sat down and looked at the numbers. Once I did, I felt like someone had just killed my puppy. The facts are undeniable, you just have to get people to really look at them.

The point is, we need to take all of those other issues that we disagree on and set them aside, because they no longer matter. Humankind is about to face its most serious threat and it won't pick and choose who it hits based on how they voted in the last election. We all made this mess and it will take all of us to clean it up. The sooner we set aside all this petty crap, the sooner we can get started.

Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

yeah you should get off the whole conservitives thing

there are plenty of liberals who dont believe this is happening or who drive suv's themselves with stop the war bumperstickers on the back.

there are intelligent people on both sides of the political spectrum and to make one side out to be a bunch of idiots is biggoted

i think political lines will blur in the future as peak oil takes the frontline and all of our other arguments become less meaningfull and pointless.
