Why are you aware of PO? {loads Very slowly}

I was wondering what it was about people that made them the ones to find out about Peak Oil. It may be nothing, It may just have been being at the right place at the right time, It might be something undefinable in our inquisitory nature.

So lets have it, Why do you think you are aware of Peak Oil now, or what is it that make you the kind of person who would find this out ahead of the crowd?
I would say that I probably found out about it because of my involvement with the Green Party in the UK. I am guilty of the usual mistake, in that when I first starting looking into Oil resources for information to put on our local website, I always thought of it as how long before we run out. But when the price of oil started going up this year I looked further into it and eventually found lots of info on Peak oil.

P.S. I have put a page on Peak Oil on our local website at link Click Future of Peak Oil.
Or just go to link If anyone can be bothered to read it and give me feedback that would be great too.

Wasn't there a thread about this a while back? Anyway, I found out through the infamous Chapter 3 of "Dude, Where's My Country?".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P').S. I have put a page on Peak Oil on our local website

I think it's a great intro to peak oil.

Here are some suggestions:
Tone down the 'effects' section. 'Some people think...' is more likely to appeal to your market (greens supporters) than 'Very soon we will see'.
You might like to add a section on basic counter-arguments, although that could be a fair bit of work, and we are all time constrained.
It might be good to provide a few links. APSO, Energybulletin, news articles from reputable sources, GlobalPublicMedia. Also, you might like to provide links to peak oil debunkers. This will give your page much more credibility.
If you had plenty of time, you could suggest follow-up links for each section.
A list of books?? This site could help you with the links: [url-http://www.dynamiclist.com/?worldview/peakoil]link[/url]
Good work.

I read a book review of Hubberts Peak in Scientific American years ago and finally read the book in may. Then cruising the net I found peak oil.

I was in the process of researching a book I wrote called Madmen at the Helm, which is about the lies and deception that our country has used to take us to war in the past. Largely, the focus was on the New World Order and the Bush neo-cons, but PO this is another story in of itself. Right now, I am trying to figure out it will play into the hands of those who wish for a one world order. After the Patriot Act and the loss of civil liberties, I can see an ever increasing consolidation of power in the Executive branch....which is one of their goals...and the masses seem ready to go along with it.

Peak oil was mentioned in a few setences in the book we were studying off of in A.P Environmental science class last year. I simply said I could care less, it won't happan until a few centuries had passed.
A few months later I came upon Matt's site on a accidental link I clicked, my own natural curosity, and my drive to understand more inspired me to read through. And here I am.
