$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('nero', 'T')ry setting up an economically independent household here in Canada with a few goats and a bunch of mud. Here you need as a minimum a secure job and the ability to afford a two bedroom appartment or really you're too poor to get married.

Here in the US, there seems to be a trend of parents heavily supporting their married children. Even to the point of having newlyweds living with parents.
I'm not sure economic independence is going to remain a criteria for marriage.

You're right lots of people get some assistance from their parents after they have set up their own household. That increase in the expected cost of raising a child however also has a dampening effect on our fertility. No matter who pays, setting up and maintaining your average household in North America is alot more expensive than it is in Mali, and that expense depresses our fertility.

Fascism has failed. Maybe we ought to give capitalism a shot.
[QUOTE]

Capialism has indeed failed as it is not a viable system. Government is always called upon to bail-out the Capitalists and to provide a cheap labor-force. Therefore Capitalism seems to regularly turn into Facism.

However, what has not failed and what I believe has not been tried is Free-Enterprise. People buying selling and trading in a free manner without government control. I suspect that after peak-Oil when the Giant Gov. and Facist control systems collapse what will emerge is Free-Enterprise. (At least I hope so).

The worst system that could emerge over the short term is a type of Theocratic Facism. I wouldn't even mention it except it seems to have become the system favoured and striven for by a large part of our population. If it comes into being God help us all!
