triple witching hour

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]triple witching hour
The final hour of the stock market trading session on the third Friday of March, June, September, and December, when option contracts and futures contracts expire on market indexes used by program traders. The simultaneous expirations often set off heavy trading of options, futures and the underlying stocks, which can cause large fluctuations in the value of their underlying stocks.

So will the markets start to crash on Friday September 16, 2005? Or are the current price increases not enough to set off a huge chain reation leading to a meltdown?

I think that unless oil spikes a large amount in a very very short period of time, the traders won't panic. The other scenario is a very very high sustained oil price.

If the expiration date includes oil, then we might call it
triple bitching hour. :P

anyone care to help me list just how many witches we have out there to hit us this fall. Actually why don't we say October to give it a halloween theme :razz:

So from what I see, This October we have due:
-Peak oil price for the year (when we switch to the heating season)
-Q3 results of energy price impact
-Profit results of Automakers "Giving away the farm" campaign
-Auto sales after the "Giving away the farm" campaign is over
-600,000b/d(?) of new oil projects not coming online as scheduled
-Cantrel in official decline

What else is out there? I know there's more :?
Angry yet?

I seem to recall that OPEC is scheduled to increase production sometime this fall (September?). It will be very interesting to see how that goes. Does anyone have a link or more info about this?
