Oil field start-up delays

Unread postby smiley » Wed 10 Aug 2005, 17:14:19

There have been four significant events the past month.

1) BP has announced a delay in the start up of thunder horse of at least 6 months
http://energyreview.net/storyview.asp?s ... source=s70

-210.000 bd

2) Statoil anounced that the startup of the Kristin field will be delayed for one year due to reservoir problems
http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=24306

-230.000 bd

3) Shell anounced that the startup of the Salakin-2 field in russia will be delayed by at least a year
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2 ... 4/047.html

-200.000 bd

4) In India the Bombay high field is shut down because the oil platform burned down http://sg.news.yahoo.com/050727/1/3ts9v.html

-100.000 bd

That means that the production estimates for next year have to be cut by something like 600.000 bd. No wonder the oil market is jittery at the moment. I wonder how the IEA is going bring that that in their oil market report tomorrow.

Anyway, while we will probably get some relief in 2007, 2006 could be a pretty interesting year.

Meanwhile relentless depletion of existing fields will more than make up for anything coming online in 2007.

2006 will be a benchmark year IMHO.

We are at PO, either de facto due to Iraq, or real oil field depeltion, it matters not.

Airlines are starting to complain about spotty fuel supply.

Heating oil looks in danger of underproduction.

Nuclear is a Greenie weeny's best freind.

Iran looks like it may get the "boot in your azz, it's the American way" (ala Toby Kieth)

And Coal "will save us" because Hydrogen is exposed as a "dud".

and were just on the precipice of the peak.

Time to:

Plant.

Plan.

Prepare.

Protect yourself.

Lol, that's so the non-PO-subscriber's motto.

Not that I don't pray.

Kerr-McGee selling its North Sea assets

By Oil and Gas Journal editors
August 8, 2005 http://ogj.pennnet.com/articles/article ... T&C=GenIn&
ARTICLE_ID=234039&p=7

HOUSTON, Aug. 8 -- Maersk Olie & Gas AS, Copenhagen, plans to buy most of Kerr-McGee Corp.'s North Sea assets for $2.95 billion. The UK's Centrica PLC agreed to buy four North Sea fields and exploration acreage from the Oklahoma City producer for $566 million.

The buyers assumed all related abandonment obligations, which totaled $182 million as of June 30. The buyers also agreed to assume $175 million in after-tax derivative liabilities.

So great of FTW to keep an eye on this stuff!

Can YOU say "bailing out"?

Ouch. Yes, if I had oil resources that had declined sharply of late, I'd be trying to get rid of them, quick.

Well that's not why they were unloading the North Sea assets. It was a tactic to appease Carl Icahn who has been seeking a Board Seat with Kerr McGee and has been lobbying hard for a major restructuring of the company. By selling off several assets they have made cash available for share repurchase. Basically appeased C. Icahn and made him a few tens of millions to boot.

I think 2005 will be seen as the last 'good' year before everything goes to hell. The long emergency officially begins this winter. In 2006 it will feel like the 1970s all over again. Get ready for gas lines, inflation, recession, unemployment, crime, the whole works. It only gets worse from there.
