Record energy prices and your wallet
Experts see relief from high oil and gas prices coming around the corner, is it soon enough?

http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/10/news/economy/oil_gas/index.htm

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')nergy analysts say the recent jump in the price of oil and gas has been due to a combination of factors - geopolitical instability in Saudi Arabia and Iran as well as the recent closure of several domestic and international refineries. The lingering effects of the recent tropical storms have not helped either, delaying fuel shipments and hurting consumers at the pump.

This surge in energy prices, however, is not unusual at this time of year according to Bill O'Grady, the assistant director of market analysis for A.G. Edwards.

"At this time of year it's normal to see refinery outages and it invariably spooks the market when it happens," he said.

I am so goddamn sick of this! Listen:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Ponsot/Deen', '"')An inexperienced writer [or columnist] thinks that the more reasons there are, the stronger their argument will be. Just the opposite is true. An argument is one line of reasoning resting on a single base. ...The base of the argument is the assumption the reasoner has to be granted to begin with. But each of the reasons on a list of reasons rests on a different base, and each asks the reader to accept a different assumption as its starting point. The more the hapless writer adds reasons, the more the argument becomes a tissue of assumptions and the more insubstantial it becomes." Beat Not the Poor Desk. Writing: What to Teach, How to Teach it and Why.

The peakers HAVE BEEN PREDICTING THIS. So do you believe them, or the following laundry list of "reasons" for high oil prices:

geopolitical instability in Saudi Arabia and Iran
the recent closure of several domestic and international refineries
The lingering effects of the recent tropical storms
At this time of year it's normal to see refinery outages

You see? The more reasons, the better the argument, right?

NO.

Supply cannot keep up with demand, because supply has peaked.

well of course. I mean. It's obviously Irans fault. They've been in the news for a few weeks now IDIOTS of course they're to blame for the steady rise of prices over the past YEAR(s).

Fuck this, i'm gonna go yell at a gas attendent (yes I know it's not his fault)

These type of stories remind me of an essay written by Garrett Hardin titled "Nobody ever dies of overpopulation." Using examples like flooding in Bangladesh that killed over a hundred thousand people living in a flood plain...Hardin explained how you will never open the newspaper and read "120,000 killed by overpopulation in Bangladesh." It's always the symptom "flooding" and not the cause, hundreds of thousands of destitute people forced to live on a flood plain.

Same with the media treatment of PO. It will always be "refineries" or "fears of terrorism" or "hurricanes" or... Never mentioning that if the world was awash in oil, a little hurricane, refinery explosion or some terrorism wouldn't mean didley squat because we could always get the oil from somewhere else.

FUEL STOCK OUTS
Why does it happen?
-unplanned maintenance/shutdown at refieries
-Inaccurate demand forecasting

PRIORITY OF ALLOCATION
-Essential services (fire,ambulance etc)
- Contracted customers
-Non contract customers
-Allocation decieded by state sales manager

WHAT WE ARE DOING
-Fuel forecasting focalpoint/demand planner for each region

-Import more finished product

Thats the official line for this company on how to not run out of fuel

I had I quiet laugh to myself

but besides my depot running out of motor spirits twice already and then this as the official line= PEAK OIL IS HERE

There is a rumor that Easter Islanders used that expression as their civilazation collapsed and cannibalism became the norm.

Fabulous parallel! I'm going to use that one.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BabyPetroleum', 'T')here is a rumor that Easter Islanders used that expression as their civilazation collapsed and cannibalism became the norm.
BP, I'm still trying to ascertain whether it's properly "BETWEEN" or "TO" MY TEETH.

There's something more disturbing about "TO": it's a vile meat that sticks to your teeth, whereas all meat can stick BETWEEN your teeth.

I'm trying to remember another expression cited by Richard Manning in "Against the Grain" that was used during a period of famine in China - something like "trade kids, eat dinner." The implication being that you're going to have to eat somebody's children... better if it's not your own.

Hey, seldom_seen, isn't that a picture of Hayduke in your avatar? What gives?!

WOAH HO HO HEE HEE HOO HO HO HEE, ah, dear me, YES that's a good one "inaccurate demand forecasting", meaning "well, gee, we're using I didn't think we'd use that much! Heck, we can't supply it!"

The rest is just excuse-making:
