PeakOil is You

PeakOil is You

People really arent in touch with reality.

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

Talking about dealing with reality the US just passed two bills first the energy bill 14.5 billion then today we passed the Highway Bill 284.6 billion. We sure got our priorities straight.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Free', 'Y')esterday I had a date and surely you know what was my number one "smalltalk subject".... stupid me! :-D

Never mention PO at a date! I heard this before but of course I knew better - with the usual result, " I heard there is plenty of oil, it's all a conspiracy", weird looks etc... 8O

Although in the end I managed quite good, because I came up with a lot of facts and figures (decline rates etc.) which are impressive and not easy to refute, and tried to stay positive how in the end it could mean that our living quality gets better (BS but doomerism is taboo...) and that after all it is not a bad thing that this means the end of globalization blah blah and managed to get to other topics...

Yes you are right in the end it's all about the seeds, it's just asking too much to get the whole concept at once...

The success of a date is measured in how much action one gets. NOT whether the victim is converted to PO. Your priorities are a little screwy.

What are you talking about my point was the government hasn't the reality. They spend more on the roads than energy.

What did you think I was pointing out? :P Last I checked I'm not brain dead.

I'll save the flame for next time.

not directed at u. I keep reading posters want "numbers" this "numbers that. I guess to satify there already made up mind. There are so many numbers proving the decline of empire its overwhelming. So what I was getting at. folks want numbers numbers, numbers. the time for numbers inmy mind is over. these kind of pork barrel bills make no sense for long term planning.
while these programs are contiunuing to be passed and implemented. more money and resources wasted. Year in year out. with this kind of reality, folks dont need numbers. proof is right in yer face. Take er easy your not brain dead. I read your posts. You are in touch with REALITY. Probably more than me. peace.

I'm learning that there's little use in openly predicting the future. Last December, I riled up my whole family by talking about Peak Oil. They didn't want to hear any of it, least of all my prediction that oil could easily be in the $60 range by the end of summer. Fast forward to a couple of days ago: Peak Oil comes up again, and I mention that I predicted exactly what's going on right now. I was right, they were not so right. And of course, they don't remember that at all! If you incorrectly predict the future, people will never let you live it down. If you correctly predict the future, people will believe that they've spotted the trends themselves as they've unfolded ("no one could have spotted this earlier than I have"), and they'll think you fancy yourself a know-it-all.

Here is some more reality. [smilie=help.gif]
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')If we want people working in America, we got to make sure our highways and roads are modern," Bush said.

"I mean, you can't expect your farmers to be able to get goods to market if you don't have a good road system," he said. "You can't expect to get these Caterpillar products all around the United States if we don't have a good road system."

Mine as well get drunk! [smilie=new_all_coholic.gif]

Huge highway bill will create jobs

I know what you mean, but even worse they don't even follow the current developments, the price per barrel is something very abstract for them, the maximum you can get them to care about is the price at the pump - then they moan about how they get ripped off by OPEC and the oil majors, and then they go over thinking about Michael Jackson and Brad Pitt.
Sigh, but they are not to blame, it's the media, if they give it the same priority as some rice bag which has fallen over in China, who wonders...
