The Perfect Plan

Now I am not saying that this can be realisticly done, but is a great idea none the less.

Imagine purchasing a farm surrounded by a wooded area. Your entrance is a hidden tunnel located at the start of the forest. You could set up solar panels on the roof to generate enough electricity to power the house and the greenhouse attached to it.
Before the peak you stock up on many supplies needed, first aid, medicine, food, etc. and store it in your cellar hidden underneath a rug in the living room. This is in case any scavenger manages to find you. Also about half a mile, surrounding your property, you set up and electric fence to keep out intruders.
You also set up booby traps in tthroughout the forest, keeping you safe from the chaos outside your farm.
This dream farm would keep you both alive and safe from the fall of civilazation.

If I were part of a roving band of thugs, I would like your plan. You are making it easy for me.

Woods are better cover than open fields so I could get in real close before you could see that I was at your house, and the trees would be good cover for me to fire at you.

Most electric fences are designed to keep in cattle. Usually the top two strands are electrified for big animals. Electric fences are a constant maintenance problem because they are always getting shorted out by things like falling branches. I could just throw a stray piece of barb wire on the hot line and short it out. Just as easily I could crawl under the bottom strands which are not electrified. A decent set of wire cutters would make mincemeat of any average fence anyway.

Then you talk about some 1/2 mile. I am not clear on what you mean, but if you mean that your house will be surrounded by an electric fence that is 1/2 mile from your house in all directions, then you need 640 acres to be in the middle of a box 1 mile on each side, which would put your house in the middle 1/2 mile minimum from the perimiter; so I suppose you have somewhere between $500,000 and $2,000,000 to buy this land. Then there is the cost of putting in 4 miles of fence. Then how good are your traps going to be so that they will be undetected and how much of the 640 acres are you going to cover with traps? Got any idea what it would cost to build a tunnel 1/2 mile long? What good would a tunnel do anyway since woods are easy to walk through.

regarding the perfect plan

Go check out your complicated plan now-assuming you will have electricity (good math work gego) for the fence you think will protect you. I read solar panels are in short supply.
How about a living fence of thorns-say blackberries? Oh but where do you live? Blackberry blight has reached the Pacific NW after migrating from Europe. The fungus was introduced to control such invasive coverage...
Look. We all want to feel safe. Gather your tribe now because it's healthy and better for you than sitting in the middle of a forest surrounded by electric wire. We are a limited resource of support in this forum. It's the real people in our lives we can engage to make a difference.
Please keep writing about your thoughts and plans. You are not alone.

well it was just a fantasy. and for the whole break fence thing, you could easily set up surveilance cameras around the forest. you would have electricity for it

If you implement anything that is designed to keep people out, then you can guarantee that they will try to break in!

You either need to make it so there appears to be nothing there at all or in such a state that others assume nothing of value is there.

Security through obscurity. Sounds like a good idea.

Rather than resist brute force, create the idea that it is not worth their time.
