I love haikus….such compact feeling and thought. Here’s a few to get us going.

Haiku crash-course/refresher: It’s all about the syllables. 5-7-5

Growth can be no more
Depletion curves surround me
Down the slope we go

Fear is upon me
Will we make it tomorrow
Smiling at my fate

Solar energy
Soaking up the rays of light
Emulating plants

When the oil is gone
and the economies crash
what fun we will have

without discretion
age of eternal sunshine
the life that we know

time is limited
illusion will soon be lost
all good things must end

is this a surprise?
we have been warned long ago
hubbert had it right

flies in the trillions
their number's still expanding
the street view is dark

to hear radio
its all I'd ask at this point
and one nice cold beer

everybody dead
survival sure is lonesome.
liquor warehouse where?

everybody dead
might as well just get real tight
taters grow so slow

drudgery endless
there's not a soul around here
someone just to talk

looked and searched today
taters soaked the burning sun
grow a few months more

can't stay drunk not smart
can't believe this life's so hard
inconceivable

stay drunk bless just die
there are still more blocks to check
maybe find some news

hope comes and then goes
the brain halts and starts for fear
stomach always growls

slowly lose one's mind
was not meant to live like this
curse the wretched flies

most disgusting stench
nostril assault day and night
need more incense sticks

disease come get me
I've got nothing left to lose
ain't scared of no flies

Why strain the water
microorganisms cool
they are my friends, no?

bb guns and rats
can't bring myself to kill cats
that's the new totem

I share meat with them
intelligence alien
what good do they do?

Dogs are meat dinner
there is no stortage of shells
and the cats lick paws

have to take a stand
you a dog or cat person?
they both have those fleas

cities far away
there's people out there somewhere
not a soul left here

make the big journey
get there and you find no food
wasted time now die

just live here with cats
kill the freaking dogs with glee
glad to have pepper

maybe they find you
maybe they find you crazy
hope they don't find you

Dutch oven is the best
Never knew how good it was
charcoal does the trick

This isn't haiku, but its poetry:

# Th' infernal Serpent; he it was whose guile,
# Stirred up with envy and revenge, deceived
# The mother of mankind, what time his pride
# Had cast him out from Heaven, with all his host
# Of rebel Angels, by whose aid, aspiring
# To set himself in glory above his peers,
# He trusted to have equalled the Most High,
# If he opposed, and with ambitious aim
# Against the throne and monarchy of God,
# Raised impious war in Heaven and battle proud,
# With vain attempt. Him the Almighty Power
# Hurled headlong flaming from th' ethereal sky,
# With hideous ruin and combustion, down
# To bottomless perdition, there to dwell
# In adamantine chains and penal fire,
# Who durst defy th' Omnipotent to arms.

# At once, as far as Angels ken, he views
# The dismal situation waste and wild.
# A dungeon horrible, on all sides round,
# As one great furnace flamed; yet from those flames
# No light; but rather darkness visible
# Served only to discover sights of woe,
# Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace
# And rest can never dwell, hope never comes
# That comes to all, but torture without end
# Still urges, and a fiery deluge, fed
# With ever-burning sulphur unconsumed.
# Such place Eternal Justice has prepared
# For those rebellious; here their prison ordained
# In utter darkness, and their portion set,
# As far removed from God and light of Heaven
# As from the centre thrice to th' utmost pole.

# There the companions of his fall, o'erwhelmed
# With floods and whirlwinds of tempestuous fire,
# He soon discerns; and, weltering by his side,
# One next himself in power, and next in crime,
# Long after known in Palestine, and named
# Beelzebub. To whom th' Arch-Enemy,
# And thence in Heaven called Satan, with bold words
# Breaking the horrid silence, thus began:--
# "If thou beest he--but O how fallen! how changed
# From him who, in the happy realms of light
# Clothed with transcendent brightness, didst outshine
# Myriads, though bright!--if he whom mutual league,
# United thoughts and counsels, equal hope
# And hazard in the glorious enterprise
# Joined with me once, now misery hath joined
# In equal ruin; into what pit thou seest
# From what height fallen: so much the stronger proved
# He with his thunder; and till then who knew
# The force of those dire arms?

Wow, thanks guys for your contributions. And PMS, you have truly outdone yourself. Also all kinds of poetry are fine; I shant draw a line at haikus.

Great stuff all!

A few more to rest my weary mind.

What goes up must fall
Gravity is a bitch, no?
Constant tug of time.

Great sphere in the sky
Ball of fire sustain me
Do return again.

Pale blue dot, my home
Fragile balance must remain
Life lingers on thee.

Non-negotiable
American Way of Life
will lead us to crash.

Peak oil has arrived.
How could this happen to me?
I was never told.

gas has run out now
it is time to load the guns
killing time is here

oh stuipd monkies
your time to rule has gone now
population crash

the lights have gone out
the hummers have no gas left
ha ha! game over

overweight, I was
when oil grew all of our food
now I am skinny

riots in the streets
no jobs left to pay the bills
scapegoats are slaughtered

like zombies, they come
starving, they eat the dead now
my guns are loaded
...delenda est.

Icarus soaring...

Silver wings warmed by the sun.

He ran out of gas.

They waited in lines

Until the heat got to them.

Some of them had bombs.

Ah good stuff, love a bit of Haiku...

World of china dreams,
Shattered before fruition,
Appear whole to many

Foreseen a great wave,
Quickly link arms and grip strong,
We can hold the wash

Descends the red eye,
Blind and shiver, but stay close,
Sun rise, united

Last dance of mankind,
Whether we Tango or Rumba,
The Party's still over

Oil? Petrol? Diesel?
Heating?! Electrics?! Goods?! Food?!?!
Really need a drink :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Sonny', 'A')h good stuff, love a bit of Haiku...

We can hold the wash

Last dance of mankind,
Whether we Tango or Rumba,

These are nice. I used the form to tell a story, but these have more poetry. As I understand the art form, its supposed to be richly vague, with beauty in the words.
