Changing from one type of species to another. Nothing ever has and nothing ever will.
Hey! A place to begin but obviously NOT a definition. They tend to be quite specific, provide examples, and sound like someone who wasn't taught to read from the Bible wrote it.
But I can work with this.
Changing from one TYPE of species to another.
As definitions are important, and often ignored by those who can't be bothered to learn the meaning of stuff, lets lay out some basics.
Here is the wiki on the biological classification scheme for reference.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species As anyone can see, species sits at the bottom of the pyramid.
What is a species?
A species (pl. species) is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity.
So, what are the TYPES of species? First, we need to understand that there is this:
"The species problem"
It is difficult to define a species in a way that applies to all organisms. This debate about species concepts is called the species problem.
So there appears to be a little hedging going on by the scientist types, in that the definition might not work with all organisms. Scientists do tend to be honest, and we LOVE specificity when we can have it.
And then we can mention this from the same wiki.
Species are subject to change, whether by evolving into new species, exchanging genes with other species, merging with other species or by becoming extinct.WHAT! SPECIES CAN CHANGE! How dare they contract the Bible! And the biglyness of whales!
The problem in all of this is Armie
knew something...just a little something...and he let it slip earlier in his fierce defense of anti-evolution and whales being all BIG and all. He said "transitional fossils". Oops.
Hey! Lets get a definition for them!
A transitional fossil is any fossilized remains of a life form that exhibits traits common to both an ancestral group and its derived descendant group.WHAT! A derived DESCENDANT GROUP! You mean...proof that one species is a DESCENDANT TO ANOTHER!!!! How could this be! Many species aren't so bigly as whales!
A derived descendant group is of course evolution in action. The wiki is chock a block full of references for anyone who wants to dive into evolution and wishes to read more than a theologians explanation for how people came about. I like how theropod dinosaurs became birds myself.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaeopteryxhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transitional_fossilHere is a bet though. People who don't wish to learn, won't. Information, facts, science, logic and critical thinking usually works on humans, but there are some impervious to such things. Once taught a religious angle for example, there might be NOTHING that can shake their BELIEF. I figured this out relatively early in my peak oil interest, seeing this human psychological thing, believe first because the idea sounds cool...and then marry it. Using the likes of educated folks like Colin Campbell and Hubbert as the prophets....and then manufacture as much evidence as possible to support this belief.
It makes it easier for them to believe peak oil because it is a provable logical extension, and Hubbert provided the math making it irrefutable in his 1956 paper. Right there...proof...peak oil will happen. The mistake was not understanding the system before just slapping a bell shaped curve on things. Hubbert's mistake, Colin Campbells, etc etc.
The true believers didn't care....they wanted the TIME answer in order to buy guns and ammo and stuff to prepare! Or like Pops get a doomstead farm, whatever. Maybe just a topic of conversation? Most of that conversation being the equivalent of two 3rd graders discussing quantum mechanics and whatnot, but still, it was fun! Doom! Buy some guns! Be part of a group!
I love peak oil. It opened my eyes to how the world of science works, and how few people can for even a single SECOND divorce themselves from what they BELIEVE and honestly and critically examine it. Oh, they SAY they can...and then prove 5 seconds later they lied.
You ROCK Armie. Keep on telling folks what you believe with the conviction you've got and the legions of uninformed might continue to grow. If it wasn't for people who can't think their way out of a wet paper bag, what good would scientists be in untangling the secrets of the universe for them? Or easier stuff like peak oil?
Plant Thu 27 Jul 2023 "Personally I think the IEA is exactly right when they predict peak oil in the 2020s, especially because it matches my own predictions."
Plant Wed 11 Apr 2007 "I think Deffeyes might have nailed it, and we are just past the overall peak in oil production. (Thanksgiving 2005)"
