$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AgentR11', 'F')rom above article quoted...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ') A hybrid that gets 55 mpg is no cleaner than a conventional car achieving the same mileage.

Fails to then mention that the number of comparable non-battery utilizing vehicles getting 55 mpg is near or equal to zero. Hybrid is the way to get great mileage, pure EV is amazing mileage beyond even that in miles per overall joule. Its other drawbacks I don't contest, but mileage, is all win on the EV side.

Well on the face of it, all points conceded, but the fact that carmakers still produce Gas Guzzlers is really an American thing isn't it. The Japanese non-hybrid corollas etc get very good mileage but Americans seem to think a huge truck or a V8 Mustang is their birthright. As for EV mileage, well did you consider the vast amounts of energy that went into it's manufacture in the first place? The battery pack alone constituting about 5 years of average driving, and that before it even leaves the showroom. And then there is the miles per joule you mentioned. Where are those joules stored in the battery coming from? Solar panels made with oil and coal, or from a Natural Gas burning power station? It's not as simple as measuring joules out of a wall socket.

And why not? As the originators, innovators and best in the world in this industry across 3 centuries now, it is understandable that pissant countries like yours don't have what it takes to be BIG and BOLD in this manner...whereas American's can choose to do so in many arenas, this just being one of many.

The industry I have spent my life in and around is one of them, and it provides the ability for other Americans to drive gas guzzlers should they so desire. Always struck me as an additional cost that is unnecessary, but I have owned both big 4X4 trucks and 4 Mustangs, a 5.0, 2 4.6's (one a convertible), and a 3.7L convertible for the wife after she loved the color of a rental she had while in Hawaii. Gave it to the daughter when she graduated with her first bachelors degree. How is your boy doing in college by the way? The V6 was a different animal compared to the 4.6L GTs, it was quite a nice travel car, and regularly achieved 30 mpg on the highway.

My big V8 trucks, company trucks excluded, were all gas guzzlers. Not a birthright, but certainly no big deal....except to foreigners who's countries are pretty pissant when it comes to oil production I guess. And building anything. Or launching vegemite. Or finding Olympians that don't embarass the entire country. Etc etc.

Experts Predicted An EV Sales Collapse. It's Already Started
This is "Another" collapse, added to the earlier collapses that saw sales go from increasing to decreasing a year and more ago.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')xperts said electric car sales would fall off a cliff in October. Here's what happened.
Jim Farley was right. Last month, Ford's CEO predicted that market share of electric cars would be cut in half once the federal tax credit for clean vehicles met its untimely demise on September 30. And in the first month of the post-tax-credit future for EVs, that's exactly what happened. Both J.D. Power and S&P Global Mobility estimate that October's EV market share plummeted to around 5% in the U.S., from a record high of over 12% in September.

The battery-powered share of sales also dropped significantly on a year-over-year basis, from over 8% in October 2024. The last time EVs made up 5% of U.S. vehicle sales was in early 2022. According to S&P Global Mobility, some 64,000 new electric vehicles were sold in October. That's a epic drop from September, when Americans bought or leased nearly 150,000 EVs as they scrambled to cash in on the expiring $7,500 incentive.

Plug-in hybrids got hit hard too, with their market share dropping from 2.2% in September to just 1% in October, per J.D. Power. “The automotive industry is experiencing a significant recalibration in the electric vehicle segment in the first month following the expiration of the federal tax credits," said Tyson Jominy, J.D. Power's senior vice president of data and analytics.

Read it all, it's a damning indictment on Battcars and Halfbreeds, the once darlings of the techno-cornucopian windsocks that shift back and forward with every new techno promise. I have no conclusive evidence, but I'd suggest from my readings that these are predominantly Democrat voting people. They are never content with the world as it is and are always crying for the Moon. Whether that be Bright new technologies so they can be more at leisure, or millions of immigrants allowed in so they can feel warm and fuzzy inside for being humanitarian.

Thank Fuck we don't have that Disease down here in Australia!

Battcars, The government solution for too many idiots on the road.

More Leaf owners with battery problems say Nissan has abandoned them
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') story CBC published last week about a Juno-winning musician's "bricked" Nissan Leaf all-electric vehicle has generated a huge response. People from across Canada and beyond shared similar stories about the breakdown of the popular EV model, and Nissan's inability or unwillingness to repair it. That has prompted some to consider legal action.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') local Nissan dealer told Josh Loewen to document the battery's performance with notes and photos so that his case could be elevated to Nissan Canada.
Loewen, an IT specialist, drove a flat, circular loop, later graphing the battery's precipitous drop in power. The car, advertised new with a range of 240 kilometres, died after just 99 kilometres. Nissan Canada told him what was happening with his battery was normal wear and tear, and was not a warranty issue.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/l ... -1.7148537

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')issan Leaf battery failure can manifest as
rapid degradation, premature failure, or a significant fire risk during DC fast charging due to lithium deposits. Issues include a high voltage system fault warning, loss of range, and in some cases, fire risk associated with DC fast charging. Affected owners should avoid DC fast charging to mitigate the fire risk

Unfortunate. Good thing I don't pretend it is a Tesla or Rivian or something and direct charge it. Otherwise I might not have chosen inexpensive, trouble free, long lasting, low maintenance, Nissan Leafs twice now.

Maybe in 10 years when I sell my current one for 50% of what I paid for it, and buy another one, maybe something bad will happen to that one?

Of course, by then I would have hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles and might not care as much if I was that 1/1000000 person who got a lemon. Happens with all cars. Of course, if those cars are ICE cars, they are dumping bucketloads of cash into oil changes and gasoline and air filters and brake pads and all those pesky things that massively polluting ICE machines need that my EV doesn't. 11000 miles and...come to think of it....only a tire rotation. But! I need another one soon! Free at the dealership for the first 36k so...no worries there. WOW....another way my Leaf is cheaper than those ICE powered cages.

The Leaf was actually the pick of the litter, a girl's car to be sure, but Japanese tech.
I remember when I looked at Battcars 7 odd years ago. I had an open mind, I had 10kVA of solar and assumed I could make it work. But unlike many I did my research and discovered that they were a scam. Even being retired, with all day to charge, they simply didn't pan out. Why? Range of course, the biggest downside of the whole Battcar deal. I wasn't prepared to snip off my balls like some here have.

Australia is too big and too beautiful to limit yourself to one little geographical area.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('theluckycountry', 'T')he Leaf was actually the pick of the litter, a girl's car to be sure, but Japanese tech.

Well, the wife certainly doesn't mind it. I don't mind how cheap it is to run. Don't know about pick of the litter, early on it was about the only thing available. When I bought my first I it was a 2015 which by then had the "lizard" battery composition. I wasn't impressed on the test drive, but I did a second one, took it to where she was waiting, she drove it around, and after finding it acceptable in driving characteristics said "sure, buy it" and I did.

Bought the 2nd one on my own based primarily on the experience with the reliability and low running costs on the first, plus Nissan was practically giving them away.

"Scam" is in the eye of the beholder. And as far as "research", that isn't what it is called when you reach your conclusion first, and then just go looking for evidence to back it up. A characteristic that has defined you and your posting on this site since you first showed up.

The rechargeable battery powered car, or ZEV, will always have a place, among the city retards. But the Halfbreed which constitutes the major "EV" sales now is coming under attack from the environmentalists.

"PHEVs are widely considered the ideal stepping stone." the article claims.
Now that's a tired old meme isn't it. You'd think that with the plethora of Battcars on the market you wouldn't need "stepping stones". The trouble is when you build an edifice, Lie upon Lie, it's not easy to get all the Lies to fit together.

Eco campaigners turn on GREEN cars calling the electrified vehicles 'one of the biggest cons in history'
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Environmental campaigners have warned motorists not to buy a certain type of 'green' car over concerns they produce more emissions than drivers are being led to believe. Brussels-based think tank Transport & Environment said these electrified cars are not only more polluting than manufacturers claim, they're also a lot pricier to run than a fully-fledged EV.

Dubbing them a 'smoke screen', the group said plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) are a 'growing emissions scandal' and 'the biggest con in automotive history' - a bold statement given the recent car finance impropriety and this week's High Court 'dieselgate' trial with 1.6million UK drivers taking legal action against car makers over accusations of cheating diesel emissions tests.

The report comes in the wake of September plug-in hybrid registrations growing by 56 per cent year-on-year. PHEVs are widely considered the ideal stepping stone between a traditional combustion engine car and EVs. This is because they have a petrol engine that's supplemented by electric motors, which are powered by a small onboard battery. They're most efficient when fully charged using a public device or domestic wallbox. They too offer lower benefit in kind taxation due to their low 'official' CO2 emissions, making them incredibly appealing to company car drivers.

But T&E says real-world measurements show they emit five times more carbon dioxide than claimed.

Does Australia use English units of measure or Commie units?

China’s EV Market Is Imploding

Beijing’s grand ambitions threaten to take down the global car industry.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n China, you can buy a heavily discounted “used” electric car that has never, in fact, been used. Chinese automakers, desperate to meet their sales targets in a bitterly competitive market, sell cars to dealerships, which register them as “sold,” even though no actual customer has bought them. Dealers, stuck with officially sold cars, then offload them as “used,” often at low prices. The practice has become so prevalent that the Chinese Communist Party is trying to stop it. Its main newspaper, The People’s Daily, complained earlier this year that this sales-inflating tactic “disrupts normal market order,” and criticized companies for their “data worship.”

This sign of serious problems in China’s electric-vehicle industry may come as a surprise to many Americans.

Take a parrot. The parrot is trained to say, all the time...."THE (fill in the blank) IS COLLAPSING!!"

Said parrot says this, is wrong, says it some more, is wrong, and then, one day, there is a decrease (not a collapse) in some metric. Fewer houses are sold. Australia tries to launch peanut butter rather than vegemite and fails as expected. A market goes into a correction.

And said parrot then pats itself on back and says..."See! I told you so!".

Even more entertaining is the parrot says these things incessantly and, because parrots don't check the data first, get it wrong. And then the normal American non-parrots laugh and pat Polly on the head and move along.

The way you KNOW this is the behavior of a parrot? Because when the given metric reverses itself, and begins climbing again, THE PARROT DOESN'T LEAARN THAT THE THING THEY ARE PARROTING HAS BEEN BIDIRECTIONAL ALL ALONG, AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY.

Such is what a parrot "knows" regards of what insignificant, failed vegemite launching country they come from.
