Book? Newspaper article? That's because they say things you don't understand, and it makes you feel inferior (because...you know...you are) when new topics pop up and aren't "buy PMS!" or "I can only talk about America because my country is insignificant" or "I don't want to talk about my son being a ditch digger like me!".

Don't worry adam, you too can have a hybrid. Just harness a donkey up to your leaf and when the battery is dead (10 miles down the road) the donkey can drag you back home

Arabs are doing the R&D so it's a sure thing.

Already had a couple. Not as cheap running costs as my EVs, but not bad.

This guy is trying to clean up the battery car mess but it's too little too late I'm afraid. He's just following up the mass exodus, like a cleaner in a stadium after the game when all the fans have left.

Now it's all the A.I. bubble and he's 100% behind it

Hundreds of billions wasted on server farms and electricity so people can watch computers draw freaky pictures for them and so they can munch Cheetos on the lounge while AI spits out hundreds of tailored resumes for jobs they'll never get. In a few years he'll be out of office, America will be even poorer and more dysfunctional, and the masses will vote in another Biden to Make America something Again

Nah. EVs are just one of the strawmen he uses to generate bad vibes throughout the country. And as with most bad things, he took shall come to pass.

Unfortunate that you don't get to vote for your King, but hey, as a people you seem to enjoy being on your knees, so...enjoy and don't ever forget....you are only on your knees to a King because you WANT to be there, and simply lack the cajones to do anything about it.

The american presidential system is so flawed, so corrupt. The senate and the house, a nod to wise English Government, and then a President with overriding power that can come in and stuff everything up. So easy to buy just one man, especially if he's a billionaire and dependent on banks for his empire. Of course the system was set up that way by the founding fathers, Rich White men who wanted to keep all the loot for themselves and not give the King of England his rightful share. What goes around, comes around.

And yet still superior to having a King. One of the unfortunate consequences of a people incapable of being anything but exactly what they started out as....a prison colony that then polluted the DNA of an entire country. And suddenly...you get millions of "lucky" folks who just love serving on their knees for at the pleasure of their King.

Keep up the good work Lucky!

Hybrids are a gimmick. They are like Red Bull, people buy that swill because of the massive advertising campaign and the corporation spends 1/3 of its revenue on... that advertising campaign. It's a jerk circle.
Hybrids have
Higher Initial Cost:
More Complexity and higher Repair Costs:
lower than stated fuel Efficiency in Real-World Conditions:
Higher Depreciation:

These are some of the drawbacks but people ignore them because
the sales people get in their ear:
they want to feel like they are part of the future:
they want bragging rights with friends and neighbors:
they get subsidies and cheap financing:

It's Tech no-logic. It's paying $200 extra for an iphone because you perceive it's a better phone but you're really just buying into an image. I think people in most Western countries see the world around them falling to pieces and some can't cope and want to buy something that reflects the Bright future they were once promised. Let's face it, most purchases today come down to psychology not practicality.

The most reliable 12V fridge freezer in Australia is the Bushman, it's bulletproof, made by a family company here in Oz with the German Danfoss compressor. It has the highest rating of any portable unit sold in the nation. But they don't sell a lot because people don't do any research and invariably buy a Chinese one because it has Bluetooth and you can download an app and see the temperature on your phone while driving along. At least until it shits itself.
The Bushman: https://www.productreview.com.au/listin ... nal-fridge 4.9 STARS
https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/engel-mt35f 3.4 STARS
https://www.productreview.com.au/listin ... esfreezers 2.3 STARS
https://www.productreview.com.au/listin ... cfx-series 3 STARS
https://www.productreview.com.au/listin ... ge-freezer 3 STARS
https://www.productreview.com.au/listin ... idge-ryder 3 STARS

Note: the Bushman has vastly more reviews than any of the others, because people love it and want to tell others. But alas most of the "others" are dumb shits and buy the Chinese crap.

Please...tell us YOUR experience with hybrids? Oh wait! My bad, I keep forgetting that pontificating from a position of no experience or intellect on...any...topic is your specialty.

Postby theluckycountry » Fri 18 Jul 2025, 17:34:10

It took some years before the critical mass of complaints about Battcars came to public consciousness and it will be the same for the downsides of Hybrids. The simple fact is, it's not One or the Other, the performance of these cars requires Both systems to function seamlessly all the time. The Gasoline engines are super-efficient, super-gutless Atkinson cycle engines and without the electric motors to augment them they couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

This actually makes them Dangerous! Imagine you've pulled out to overtake a truck and halfway past the battery cuts out, instantly you lose half your power and you're stuck there beside the truck. You better hope no one's taken your place behind it, or God forbid pulled out to overtake at that moment too, because your only option is to hit the brakes and go back. Well naturally that's not a problem now, with most of the half-breeds new or just a few years old. But give it a few more years and it will be a big problem because anyone owning them near the end of life (6~10 years) will be unlikely to want to replace the battery packs. Built in obsolescence, the curse of modern manufacturing.

7 Warnings Your Hybrid Battery Is Failing
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '1'). Losing Kilometres Per Litre (Fuel Economy Drops Off)
We get a lot of calls from customers who say, “I used to make it to Auckland on one tank, now I’m filling up before Huntly.” If you notice your petrol hybrid like a Honda Insight or Kia Niro suddenly needs more stops at Caltex on Ulster Street, your battery could be to blame.

2. Battery Charge All Over The Show
Seen your battery meter acting like a yo-yo — full one minute, nearly empty the next, or not holding its charge at all? That’s a red flag. We had a lady in with her Camry Hybrid from Cambridge who noticed her battery indicator was unpredictable...

6. Sluggish Power or Acceleration
If you’re mashing the throttle to get onto Cobham Drive and the car feels like it’s towing a boat, that’s a classic sign of a crook battery. Whether it’s an older Lexus RX400h or a Subaru XV Hybrid, these cars should have a bit of zip

7. Battery’s Just Getting Old
Even the toughest battery cops it eventually. Most are good for 6–10 years, depending on how much driving you do between Hamilton and places like Raglan or Huntly, and whether they see hard summers or freezing winter mornings in Morrinsville...

The Heartbeat of a Hybrid: Understanding the Battery's Role
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Consequences of a Toyota Hybrid Battery (or others) Failing
Will it leave you stranded, and how much does a lifeline cost?

The hybrid battery is not just a part of the vehicle; it is its life force. It allows the Prius to glide silently on electric power and boosts fuel efficiency to admirable levels. Yet, as with all rechargeable batteries, there comes a time when it can no longer hold its charge. When this happens, it can be terrifying; the car no longer functions like it once did, leaving the driver/owner worried and anxious...
https://www.torquenews.com/8113/consequ ... rs-failing

Worried and anxious, welcome to the tech, no future

Stranded or Still Rolling? The Reality of Battery Failure
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')A common fear is that a failed battery equals a car that won't start, but the reality is less dire. Most Prius models are designed to operate on their gasoline engine if the battery gives up the ghost. So, while you might not be stranded, your Prius will be a shadow of its former self—more gas-guzzler, less green machine. But that is not the only thing that can happen. Toyota hybrids rely heavily on the battery to help move them down the road. With a failed battery, the gasoline engine will be constantly revving, and getting over 40 mph will be if you are going down a hill. Trust me, as someone who has rescued dozens of these cars, a failed battery is just the worst problem.

Remember, we're not talking about totally rooted half-breed batteries here, just ones that have lost the ability to hold full charge. It's what makes these cars inner-city options only. Stick to the supermarket runs and you'll be ok.

Before you buy a half-breed Battcar, just ask yourself. "Am I an uber driver?" "Do I only want to go to the shops and back and visit mum across town?" If this is the case it probably won't do any harm to buy one, so long as you offload it to someone else around the 5-year mark.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('theluckycountry', 'B')efore you buy a half-breed Battcar, just ask yourself. "Am I an uber driver?"

Why would anyone do that? I"ve owned 2, and certainly have no intension of being an Uber driver. But then, I"m not uneducated and in this forum, that seems to be the group you so naturally represent.

Have you ever considered night school? I mean, just for little things, like thinking and some basic logic, etc etc?

Why the big push for these half-breed battcars all of a sudden? The big sales pitch only really started about 2 years ago or so. Right around the time it was obvious (as posted here) Full Battcar rates of sales increase was declining. I know that's a little ambiguous so I'll lay it out. RBCs (rechargeable battery cars) were still selling well and selling in greater numbers than the months before, but that rate of sales increase was declining, until of course, it reached Zero. At that point RBCs were still selling well but with no increase in sales. The EVidiots couldn't get there head around this, even when I pointed it out! So I just waited until enough data was in to show that actual sales themselves were now in steep decline.

The Lipo battery complex is Huge, ranging from mines to transport contracts to material processing and on to factories making them etc etc. We're talking a lot of business interests here. And a rapid slowdown in battery sales would not be good for business. Ergo I think there was a concerted push made to market the half-breeds as a "green solution", as a way for people to still burn Gasoline but feel better about it. It was done smoothly too if you look at the sales figures. As the RBCs declined in sales these took off. Then of course to make the marketing easier they rebranded them as NEV and EV so the dimwitted public would feel even better about them. I'm sure if I went into a Toyota dealership and said I was interested in an electric vehicle they'd steer me straight over to a half-breed corolla or such, offering me cheap Japanese financing and a good trade on my petrol powered 4x4. But that, they would have to take from my Cold dead hands

No one objects to you running a 4X4 ICE machine as long as you happily pay the fuel costs. While your lack of formal training in math, science...reasoning....critical thought and in general anything beyond the 9th grade level is sufficient for a career ditch digging and whatnot, even for a cretin it must be understandable that why should I pay 5-10X for my fuel costs when I don't have to? The answer is...I don't have to, and an EV allows that to happen. You apparently don't even know WHY some folks happily use our EVs for exactly what they are meant to do...save me money better spent or saved elsewhere.
