Lithium battery fires are a growing issue at Knott Landfill
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsLx96jj7Zw
Of course they are blaming old mobile phones etc, which of course is the major problem, but the scale of EV batteries hitting the waste stream now is massive too. Recyclers of these in Western nations strip out what useful metals they can and throw the rest of the waste into landfills. No longer explosive, but still highly toxic.

According to the Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR), lithium-ion batteries cause at least three fires in recycling streams every day, but the real number of blazes is suspected to be much higher.

Image

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot;Any [recycling] truck that catches fire as a result of a battery incorrectly placed in the wrong bin would cost upwards of $50,000 to $200,000 to replace. "So when you cumulatively look at that, we are looking at an incredible amount of infrastructure that is being destroyed by batteries."

Fire Rescue Victoria said the issue was likely to get worse. "Victorian fire services respond to at least one significant lithium-ion battery-related fire each week and this trend is expected to increase," a spokesperson said.

Ni-cad and Nickle metal hydride fires? Never heard of one.

Google's AI at the top of their search page comes up with some incitefull stuff, from time to time.

"tesla is rotton from the core"

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')I Overview
The statement "Tesla is rotten from the core" is a strong criticism suggesting that fundamental issues within the company, potentially related to quality control, manufacturing processes, customer service, or even leadership, are deeply ingrained and significantly impacting its overall performance and reputation, often implying that these issues cannot be easily fixed.
Key points supporting this view could include:

Quality control concerns:
Reports of inconsistent build quality, frequent recalls, and issues with components like paint or interior materials.

Production bottlenecks:
Difficulty in meeting delivery timelines due to manufacturing challenges.
Customer service complaints:
Criticism regarding customer support responsiveness and resolution of issues.
Leadership controversies:
Public perception of erratic decision-making or behavior from key executives like Elon Musk.
High fault rates:
Data from independent studies showing a relatively high number of faults per Tesla vehicle compared to competitors.

Then
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')owever, it's important to note that:
Positive aspects:
Tesla is still considered a leader in electric vehicle technology and innovation, with many users praising its driving experience and advanced features.

Context matters:
Depending on the perspective, "rotten to the core" might be considered an exaggeration, as Tesla does have areas of strength.

So we have all the blatant downsides, but in its favor, "It's still considered a leader." In other words "public perception" :lol:
Nothing wrong with that as a short term driver of course, but it also means the company is hollow, or rotten to the core. It's no Bethlehem Steel, no Ford motors. It will be gone one day, like Pets.com

Image

People will point to the share price, as though in this casino market it means anything at all. They thought the same way in 1929 but when the dust had finally settled only one stock mattered then, it was up, and up by a lot! Homestake.

Dividend payout: Homestake paid out $128 per share in dividends during the Great Depression.
Stock value: Homestake stock was worth $495 per share by 1935.

Take your pick

Delaware Judge Rejects (Again) Musk's '70%-Shareholder-Approved' $56 Billion Pay-Package

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'i')n January 2024 when she initially rescinded Musk's record (but "deeply flawed" according to her) $56 billion performance-based compensation package (determining that Tesla deceived shareholders when the all stock compensation was approved in 2018), “Were the court to condone the practice of allowing defeated parties to create new facts for the purpose of revising judgments, lawsuits would become interminable," she wrote.

Suck it up Baby boy

Image
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')In addition to rejecting the revisions, Quartz reports that Monday’s decision granted $345 million in attorney fees to the lawyers who successfully challenged Musk’s pay plan on behalf of Tesla shareholders.

The court deemed this amount an “appropriate sum to reward a total victory.”

The Lies that constituted the marketing of these vehicles is legion, but it's all lies today, everywhere you look. Why people still believe anything praised in the media is the great paradox of our times.

And with the EV we are at that "pretend it never happened" stage, Again! Enron, Shale oil, Housing, every time it's the same, big promises and then a big failure to launch. Then everyone just walks away like it never happened. That's why we rational posters get so short with the techno-idiots that come onto forums raving about how "This will change the world." They never think, it's like conversing with a sales brochure.

The housing bubble was a classic, they were all going to be millionaires, as long as home prices kept rising at double digits per year. Then for 10 years they didn't! But now there is a whole new crop of young suckers out there promoting investment properties, even with all the flies that are in the ointment now. For one is the the high rates and for two is the increasing land taxes, down here in Oz at least. But the machine must grind on, mortgages must be bundled and sold to investors (pension funds)

We pay land rates to the local councils but the state has it's own scheme to thieve billions. These are called Land Taxes and they kick in when you own over $600k worth of land, (not house and land, just the combined value of the land itself which is valued by the local councils.) As prices rise higher and higher more and more people are pushed into this bracket. The taxes are substantial and cause many to sell one or more of their rentals to keep below the limit. It's all very convoluted but added to insurance costs, ongoing agents fees for management and repairs, building depreciation, capital gains tax at sale, it make houses a real grind as far as a wealth vehicle.

But this is about EVs and like shale oil it turns out that the companies involved never made enough to repay all the money they borrowed and offer a decent dividend.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')esla has never declared dividends on our common stock. We intend on retaining all future earnings to finance future growth and therefore, do not anticipate paying any cash dividends in the foreseeable future.

All future earning except for the multi billions given to the man who usurped the company in the first place. Yes the Fat Cats must be paid, but not the actual people who funded it :lol:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')ales of Tesla electric cars plunged again in the month of November, with the brand suffering a fall of 35.5 per cent compared to the same month a year ago, despite a range of new incentives designed to boost sales.

Latest data released by the Electric Vehicle Council puts Tesla’s total sales at 2,450 for the month of November, down from from 3,940 in November last year. Total sales for the year stand at 34,754 – still by far the biggest in the country but down 20.88 per cent compared to 2023.

As usual, you are posting BS. We hit PeakICE, not PeakEV. And not only did you miss it completely, you choose to ignore it every time I point this out to you. Can't let reality into that delusional world you live in now can you?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')lobal sales of internal-combustion-engine vehicles have fallen each year since 2017 thanks to electric cars taking up a growing share. The world has hit “peak” gas-powered vehicle sales. Since that peak in 2017, gas-powered vehicle sales have dropped 23%. At the same time, EV sales have steadily risen.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mousepad', '
')Funny. And I always thought the one and only thing going for electric cars is their cheap fuel.

Wife's employer provides it for free. However, the deal has gotten popular, as have EVs owned by employees. Folks are now scheduled through a online system, you sign up for a spot, everyone is allowed 4 hours, but then you've got to move to give someone else a chance.

Solar panels on the garage roof certainly contribute to making oer mile costs cheaper than ICE machines. Not everyone has these advantages of course. To each their own.

Ha Ha Ha HA, I knew that would flush you out kub, you must have a standing program to detect if your name is mentioned hahaha. And your lapdog has rushed in behind you too! Hi Adam

Forgive me if I don't read your post kub, whatever little tit-bit of "good news" you have brought up hardly matters now does it. It's over for the EV transition, the same as it's over for the renewable energy transition. All that's left really is the exposing of the big players as the Potemkin village facades they have been all along. That will take a little longer kub because they are being used to launder the wealth of pension funds etc and will only be allowed to collapse into oblivion during the Big crash that is being engineered.

I mean look at Tesla, there can't be but a minuscule fraction of the population that actively buy it believing it's a solid company. No, the money to reinflate the share price comes from big funds all across the world that inject the weekly and monthly installments from the pay-packets of honest workers saving for their retirement. It's as I have written here before, the vast majority of really profitable corporations are all privately owned and the little people are not allowed to invest in those. So you have an endless stream of money chasing the same tired old corporations. It comes in and inflates the price, the big players pull out at a top and deflate the price, and the pension funds reinflate it. A good system if you're on the inside :) Buffett is on the inside...

1929, I can smell it in the air!

Yes please ignore my posts little Nazi. Show everyone what a coward you are running from the truth and instead vomiting up your usual diarrhea you call posts. ICE peaked 7 years ago, you ignore it. EV sales are breaking sales records, you ignore it. Over 90% of power plants getting built are renewables, you ignore it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'a')lmost 91% of the global net power capacity additions came from solar and wind in 2023, up from 83% in 2022. In comparison, the net new power capacity additions from fossil fuels accounted for just 6%, the sector’s lowest level ever.
Report: Zero-carbon sources accounted for almost half of global electricity in 2023

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')lobal solar capacity has reached a record 2 terawatts (TW) of capacity, with more added in the last two years than the previous 68 combined.
Global solar capacity hits 2 TW on path to climate goal

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')t the current rate of additions, the world will install 593 GW of solar panels this year. That’s 29% more than was installed last year, maintaining strong growth even after an estimated 87% surge in 2023.
Solar power continues to surge in 2024

Electric car crisis sparks calls to dismantle ‘Frankenstein’

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')03 December 2024 6:30am GMT

Just nine months ago, Carlos Tavares looked like one of the most unassailable chief executives in the automotive business. The former Stellantis boss – whose abrupt departure emerged late on Sunday – had overseen yet another year of record profits at the world’s fourth-biggest carmaker.

This was partly the result of relentless cost-cutting, after the Portuguese executive in 2021 masterminded the stitching together of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group to create a carmaking Frankenstein’s monster. But behind the enormous scale of Stellantis, problems have been brewing that have since brought Tavares’s tenure to a screeching halt. They threaten to create a nightmare for his successor as well. Among them is the question of whether Stellantis, a global behemoth spanning 14 brands including Vauxhall, Fiat, Peugeot and Jeep, can continue as a vast chimera, analysts said on Monday.

At the same time, the chief executive’s demise is the latest sign of turmoil gripping Europe’s car industry as Chinese rivals muscle in to their markets around the world.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/20 ... uto-giant/

So China is taking over? No. China is just dumping it's huge stock of EV at firesale prices. Hell they'll be on a BRICS reserve currency soon and will probably be excluded from the big western markets by tariffs anyway.

China's EV Market Meltdown: The Shocking Truth Behind the Collapse! Electric Cars & A Failing Market https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjbPlCJAVbA

Stranded assets, all across the globe, EVs sitting in lots by the thousands and no one willing to touch them because they are a recycling nightmare. Tens of thousands of broken charging stations littering the countryside. The companies bankrupt and no one interested in removing them because there is no money in it. And that's just the visible detritus! Then you have all the factories and parts makers. What a mess.

Edit: and the debt! The corporate and private debts must be in the trillions. And the US government debt accrued in subsidizing it all :roll: Yes, you don't get $36 Trillion dollars in debt by just spending tax receipts. Whose Adam gonna sell his leaf's to? He was the Bottom scraper, picking them up for a cheap price. What will they be worth after the batteries are dead? The breakers won't want them, he'll have to tow them to a waste facility and pay for disposal. More money lost...

I found a prophet!
From 2022

The last nail in the e-coffin

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')his week we’ll put the nail in the coffin of any dreams of personal car electrification in the coming years. That may sound drastic, but regular readers of the blog will remember I did my first post on the subject almost two years ago and have followed that up a couple of times, notably last summer, at a time when we were all living in the world where markets were good and Putin was, well not in Ukraine. On one hand things have thus changed in a way which is highly significant notably for EV’s. On the other I came across some really astounding facts a couple of weeks ago, the silence on which is very surprising. But if the media won’t tell you about it, then I guess I will, and although it may sound pompous, I really do think this seals the fate for the worldwide EV roll-out our Western politicians want to see over the coming years. Let’s dig in.

The skepticism I’ve long held to our electrical future has nothing to do with the cars themselves (although most, after you’ve pushed the pedal to the metal a few times, are about as interesting as watching paint dry, but that may change as more come to market – maybe). Rather, this comes from the massive issues related to EV battery production, the less than convincing carbon footprint they have, and the geopolitical implications of where the necessary metals are located. But actually, you don’t even need to go there, because in addition to all this, there’s the simple fact that there isn’t enough of the materials needed for the electrical future to be realized. In other words, the alternative to the combustion engine is finally here, and it’s not a bad one, but the world doesn’t have enough “fuel” to power it on a massive scale. And yet, whilst concrete plans are drawn up for a ban on combustion engine cars, no one talks about it.

We’re told we should replace all our traditional cars with EV’s as quickly as possible. Let’s say we’re slightly less ambitious and content with 500 million EV’s as a first step. After all, that’s about 480 million more EV’s than are on the road today and maybe we don’t need all of those 1.45 billion cars going forward (that would actually be a fair assumption…). To supply batteries for that number of cars would require mining a quantity of energy minerals equivalent to about three trillion smartphone batteries. That’s equal to over 2,000 years of mining and production for the latter. And even if that through some miracle...

As expected, I'm not even sure what point you were trying to make. Posting a chart and pretending as though there was a message there you thought should be noticed?

I've never gotten into any of your idiot-centric ideas on clean energy technologies. I'm not convinced you can spell your name twice and get it right, so I try and follow a basic principle with your type, and it is aboslutely apropos.

Now post more pictures, because Australia has some pretty spots, and you using words is like a pig putting on lipstick.
