$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('VinceG', 'I') was shocked when I recently learned about implications of the Sex Offenders Registration Act. This act has been directed by the Michigan State Police to develop and maintain a Public Sex Offender Registry. The information on the PSOR is available on the Internet and includes an offender’s name, address, offense information, and a photograph!

First of all, these 'sex offenses' are extremely disputable. There was a case of an 18-year-old guy and a 15-year-old girl who, with
mutual permission, had a sexual relationship. Unfortunately, according the Sex Offenders Registration Act, this 18-year-old is a 'sex offender'. He was sentenced to 21 months probation and will be on a list of 'sex offenders' that include pedophiles and rapists for the next 25(!) years. Worst of all, this registry is
publicly available for everyone who wants to see it. Just go to
http://www.mipsor.state.mi.us/mipsor/default.htm, enter your local ZIP-code and you get a list of 'sex offenders' in your neighbourhood.
I think this is just F#@%$&* crazy...

True, there may be cases when the "sex offender" isn't really an offender, but I suspect the majority are. I for one appreciate knowing about the location of sex offenders (for my children), and especially having a picture. I think a lot of these offenders establish a relationship with a family and then abuse the children. I'm all for privacy, etc. but when it comes to pedophilia's I don't have much sympathy since many of them abuse many many children.
