What Started Your Peak Oil Curiosity?

Unread postby PhebaAndThePilgrim » Thu 04 Aug 2005, 18:01:06

Good day from Pheba from the farm.
How did you get involved in peak oil? How long have you been researching/reading about it?
All of this actually began for me back in 1995 with research for pollution/conservation, etc. The peak oil information evolved from that base.

I absorb a lot of information subconsciously, then (don't think I'm crazy) it has a tendency to come out in dreams.
I believe that is the way my brain transcribes the information it accumulates. I usually dream a solution before I figure it out. I have been dreaming about peak oil for many years. But, then I lived through the oil shocks of the 70's. I am sure that has had a bigger subconscious impact on me than I care to admit.
I am wondering how many people in the general population are aware of peak oil, and just won't admit it.

Pheba.

I started with the Bible...and read all of revelations..and learned all I could about it..and that brought me to this site..not only am I worried about peak oil..but worry about mankind...
Your will Lord Not mine be done...
If you do not have ears that will listen and eyes that cannot see...and hearts that are not opened..
I go into many sites and read..there are alot of days I wish I did not have a computer..but it was the news years ago that made my decisions..and now the computer keeps me updated..

A casual lunch conversation, six months ago, followed by a week of intensive reseacrh. Bingo, a new world view.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat Started Your Peak Oil Curiosity?

Well, I was probably about 14 when it started. I noticed that I was changing, you know, inside... Then we had some peak.ed classes in 8th grade that really grossed me out. I knew, right then, that I wanted no part of PO. But then I got to thinking, well, everyone is doing it, even if they don't know about it yet. Then I got into my dad's stash of PO magazines that he had hidden in the bottom drawer of his nightstand. Right then, I was addicted to PO. And here I am now.

Sorry, that was so stupid.
It's a stretch connecting PO to erotica, anyways.

I really don't remember exactly. I think I stumbled on LATOC in searching for material for my column in my school newspaper, the Lion's Tale.

In surfing I somehow stumbled into the preview page with Rolling Stone from The Long Emergency by Kunstler. It's at http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/ ... er=unknown. Then read a lot in a mighty short time, got most alarmed by Heinberg's The Party's Over.

Checking this and related topic since I read Gaia (byLovelock) and Limits of growth books many years ago. Got the term "peak oil" from dieoff.org site few years ago and link to these forums from ASPO site.

Stressed by the US military moves (and the huuuge Budget too) right after 911 and the war on terror Drama i just tried to find out about real oil reserves in ME... this lead me to ASPO. Before ASPO i wasnt able to understand or "draw a correct rational" behind Bush and his "neo-imperialismus"; then i got some clues....

Back in March I was upset that gasoline prices had gone over $2.00 a gallon. I did some reasearch on the internet to find out why and came across Matt Savinar's LATOC.

I always knew oil was finite and going to run out one day. But I had no idea it was going to be starting this soon. :?

My view of the future and the world in which we live has been turned upside down.

How stupid are we to have developed an entire way of life and economy around a finite resource? :x
