I saw where Kunstler published his playlist of stuff he listens to while biking the beautiful countryside up there in New York State. I share his enthusiasm for music. My son is taking a long flight and wanted a CD of sixties music. So here's the list for CD1 (there are 2):

Bob Dylan, Tombstone Blues
Jeff Beck, Greensleeves
Rolling Stones, Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
Yardbirds, Over Under Sideways Down
Cream, Crossroads
Yardbirds, Heart Full Of Soul
Led Zeppelin, Ramble On
Rolling Stones, I Am Waiting
Bob Dylan, Mr. Tambourine Man
Leonard Cohen, Suzanne
Donovan, Jenifer Juniper
CCR, Suzie Q
Rolling Stones, Sitting On a Fence
Yardbirds, I'm a Man
Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze
The Byrds, Wasn't Born To Follow
Steppenwolf, Magic Carpet Ride
Led Zeppelin, Dazed and Confused
Moody Blues, Om
Yardbirds, For Your Love

The boy's a teenager. This was some damn good teenage music. I still like it. Put up a playlist from more recent times.

Thats tough for me. I have such a diverse taste of music I couldnt make a brief playlist.

An "easy listening" one would have some U2, INXS, Puddle of Mudd, Stone Temple Pilots and Nickelback for sure.

A harder playlist would have some Tool, NIN, Faith No More, Firehouse (I'll never admit that again), Sevendust, Static X, Powerman 5000, Rob Zombie, Pantera, Velvet Revolver and Motley Crew.

If I start doin drugs, whole new ballgame. Pink Floyd is the de facto trippin music, The Doors is nirvana when I'm cokin, list goes on.

No but the only 60s Floyd is Ummagumma. What do you think of Ummagumma; is that what you would want your teenage son to listen to? Actually, if I was going to do a third CD it would have to have 'Careful With That Axe, Eugine'.

I finally found the record that I was looking for: Eric Burdon declares War. Excellent music, way out there, put together in 1969 and after a year of touring recorded in 1970. Includes "Spill the wine! but the best track is "Tabacco Road" where first his eyesight is robbed and then his live is asked for...

Piper at the Gates of Dawn? Saucerful of Secrets?

I did buy Ummagumma for my daughter when she was still a teen. She doesn't even drink at 21, never mind that other stuff.

And as for the Airplane, After Bathing at Baxters is full of fine, jazzy rock. Spencer Dryden was one hell of a drummer.

Those are good, but notice that the list is all the down to earth stuff mostly. Ummagumma they've heard, but I wanted mainly popular rock and folk sounds, none of the out there stuff. ummagumma's better to be mixed with jazz or something. A sixties CD and no Beatles? They get their own CDs.

What about some of that sweet soul music? Sam Cooke,Sam&Dave, early Tina,Joe Tex,Aretha?
And maybe a taste of Music From Big Pink- you could record a fatherly message about PO after Tear of Rage.

You can really branch out with sixties stuff; what with jefferson airplane and these I could easily make another good list. Taj Mahal, Captain Beefheart 8) Floyd's record with the cows was good. (as for peak oil, I've inoculated them already, no need to dwell on it) Can't forget those other sweet sounds of those times: Sugar, Sugar, Monster Mash, Last Train To Clarksville, These Boots Are Made For Walking, Grazin' In The Grass, Mellow Yellow, My Green Tambourine, Crystal Blue Persuasion, get my drift? It gets a lot worse. No, I wanted to stick to what I thought was good honest rock stuff. Seemed like the fatherly thing to do.

Relax, he saw Ray. I know his music from my youth (Hit The Road Jack, Born To Lose, Georgia, etc) but haven't seen the movie yet. No more lawsuit nonsense por favor.

My son got back from Japan and said he loved the sixties stuff. Interestingly, he wanted to know who did Dazed and Confused. Led Zeppelin. Of all the bands and artists of the 60's. Zeppelin is probably the one still most popular. There are plenty of people who still like The Beatles and they were of course numero uno in those days, but Zepp had the staying power.

Lot's of people talkin'
few of them know
Soul of a woman
was created below

From Dazed and Confused, Led Zeppelin

Its a song about a young man's confusion and despair. Not suprising that a 16 year old boy would love a song like this. He told me about this girl who insulted him so he insulted her back. Then she said 'don't talk to me'. This 16 year old of mine, he's the joy of my life. The next song on the playlist was Om, by the Moody Blues, the perfect antidote to life's troubles.
