$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')b]Book by Syne Mitchell Addresses Peak Oil Issue
End in Fire by Syne Mitchell is the story of a space station crew who witness a nuclear exchange between China, India, and America in 2022 over the last oil field. (In the book, it's situated on the border between China and India, and the US gets involved, because, well, I probably don't need to explain "our" foreign policy to you, do I?)
While Mitchell doesn't write much about the oil issue aside from explaining that it's the cause of the conflict and a bit of moralizing ("How could we have forgotten that our children were more important than oil?"), it's kind of cool that someone is tackling the issue. Does anyone else know of any works of fiction that mention peak oil? (I think Piers Anthony does, rather tangentially, in Isle of Woman at the very end, but I may be misremembering. I know there was some kind of drastic technology level drop-off near the end, but I am not 100% positive that oil dependence was a factor.)
End in Fire is decently written and an okay read, but I'd still say get it from the library.
