A good friend of mine has the oportunity to buy a recruitment consultancy specialising in the Oil & Gas industry.

He's a 'They will think of something' guy.

I care about him even though he thinks I'm crazy.

My gut reaction is to say don't do it, however he is very short termist, and seeks to retire in 3 to 5 years.

I assume as things get tight, money will be invested in a furious fasion intended to increase output, thus depleting faster.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I wasn't sure where to post this either.

I would tell him go for it.

He stands to make allot of cash in the short term and that is the way he thinks. In some respects we all should think of both what is going to happen in the short term and then the long term.

There is a need for more people in the Oil industry but not many young people thought there was a future in the industry. They opted to get computer science degrees. That was probably a mistake.

The masses are always playing k catch up and very few people are ever in the right place at the right time.

What else is your friend going to do go into the airlines, maybe real estate or how about the auto industry? Where do see anyone having a good chance for growth in the short term?

Thanks Eli

I think he would go for it anyway, and I suspect you are right. I hear Oil & Gas and alarm bells ring.

I'll give you an example of what is happening in the coal fields of Wyoming. The mines up there are extremely picky. You need one year of mining experience before they will hire you so all of the noobs are temporary workers i.e. farmed out on contract by Manpower. Currently Manpower can't even fulfill their obligations because they can't find anyone to farm out so the mines are hiring off of the street for the first time since 1979. Dunno if that helps but if oil is as hot as coal maybe that's why the biz was up for sale in the first place.
You observed it from the start
Now you’re a million miles apart
As we bleed another nation
So you can watch you favorite station
Now you eyes pop out your sockets
Dirty hands and empty pockets
Who? You!
