Howdy Chuck
I'm a librarian - I work in Canada's largest library (University of Toronto's Robarts library) and lucky me...my own "private" book collection is upwards of 10 million volumes.
I started with Greg Green's "The End of Suburbia" and then moved right into the library catalogue.
Here's what I'd suggest:
Start with JH Kunstler's "The Geography of Nowhere" then move to his
"Home From Nowhere."
This will set you up for his third (and recent) "The Long Emergency."
These are all very readable, straightforward books.
For further insights - Michael T. Klare's "Blood and Oil" will give more in depth background about the history and development of our oil economy.
Two others that cover more in depth study are:
"The End of Oil" by Paul Roberts, and
"Addicted to Oil" by Ian Rutledge
I hear through the grapevine up here that a follow-up documentary is in the works (to "The End of Suburbia") called - "Escape From Suburbia."
Being such a hot topic (and ever-growing) I'm sure the producers will be pushing to complete and release it as soon as possible.
Happy reading!
