Ibon

From our mutual acquantience,

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Panama:

A few days ago the National Gov established sanitary closures around certain areas, like Panama City. Passing thru these closures is restricted and related documentation is required to pass.

Today, our Province (Tierras Altas) did the same. No transit in or out without proof of necessity.

Today my wife made a big provisioning run in preparation for further restrictions. Quotas have been established at the super markets to prevent hording.

Starting tomorrow, local movement inside the province will be restricted based upon last digit of your cedula (national ID). Each digit has a corresponding time range where you are permitted to be out and about.

Its all been handled calmly and orderly here in Panama. No big political/social drama...we can watch the USA news for that...another entertainment option while locked down.

A friend tells us that similar restrictions are being enacted in Bocas del Toro.

Sounds reasonable.
Here in Dominica we have 2 cv cases. Sounds like a husband and wife who flew from U.K. they were quarantined upon landing. Hopefully that catches it.

BUT ALSO,

I see that the Fl governor is going to require 2 weeks isolation of folks from NY and NJ.

How to enforce that is beyond me.

Yep, just 12 miles down the road. Today I heard the first murmurings from staff about how their families are calling and worried how they are going to buy food and other necessities now that they are out of work. That this cannot go on for too long.....

Until now the cooperation and buy in from the citizens and residents here has been pretty solid... I will report on how this evolves. The enforcement is pretty thorough as well with checkpoints and checking ID's from what I have heard. Since this started we have not gone down off the mountain on the 4x4 road and we plan on not doing so for as long as we can. We have plenty of supplies.

In Dominica we had what sounded to be a husband and wife fly in from the U.K. with the virus. They were isolated but not before they infected 5 others. So now we have 7 cases and the country is being cut off from all outside contact.

I hope they can isolate it. Not a whole lot of medical stuff here. Total population is between 65 and 80k depending upon who you ask.

There was talk of Australians trapped in India worried about the lockdown meaning they cant get food or medicine and the locals are blaming them (foreigners) for bringing the virus to India.
Is food and medicine available there and how much is imported ?

Your in Australia though ???

I was wondering how being in an isolated 3rd world country as a foreigner would play out.

I think the countries that will take the big hits here after Europe and the US,will be the 3rd world, India, Indonesia lots of Africa and Sth America.

Australia wont be spared either but I dont feel to the extent that more tightly packed people with worse, unattainable or unaffordable health care with lower education standards and less compliant in following government orders

Dominica seems to be handling this well with Cuban assistance.

Last night they announced more strict punishments for disobeying social distancing and a curfew from 10Saturday night until 8am Tuesday morning, with the possibility of extension.

I suspect they wanted to make sure all churches stay closed.

Just a guess.

I’ve heard of churches in the USA being host spots, one near my home town.
