Computer software developed by researchers in New Zealand is being used to help heart surgeons save lives around the world. It is using the power of MRI scanning and four dimensional technology to create a mathematical image of the heart. Around 10 babies are born each week with some kind of heart abnormality and the MRI scanners are now taking over from ultrasound technology in helping doctors pinpoint complex problems more accurately. The software will soon be used to plan cardiac surgery in 70 countries.
