You might have noticed the google ad at the top of the page.

This time he has created a whole new blog telling us why peak oil is a trivial problem due to the multitudes of new technologies waiting to take oil's place. Sort of like BiGG, only more computer-literate.

Yeah but Manna was a pretty good novel. He focuses on electricity generation and he is right about that ... electricity generation is a non-issue. The PO thread is bullshit :-D
The way I see it ... we do have component technologies but we lack a clear way of combining them. But most importantly a consice framework about the future i.e. what kind of society or economy is missing
Listing "alternatives" only works in a MCQ exam

Yup... this is exactly what makes me a doomer.

No shortage of folks out there who are willing to screw over everyone for a buck.

So unless you guys plan on forcing a power down at the business end of a gun...

We are on the express elevator to hell...
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Not me...

I shun leadership. (Which I realize probably makes me the perfect candidate to lead).

We either force people around the world to power down, or the process will happen on it's own.

Either way means war.

Bring a sponge.

From the web site ....
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')es, we will have to make some minor adjustments. For example, we are all likely to be buying new cars powered by electricity or hydrogen or biodiesel (or whatever) over the next decade or so. But most people will end up buying a new car over the next decade anyway -- it is not like this is a major change of behavior.

:-D :) :( 8O   :!: :-D 8O

By reassuring people that the future will only be a bigger, better version of the recent past, you encourage them to go ahead and buy Ditech miracle mortgage financed McMansions with three car garages to hold the Escalade and the speed-boat.

He and those like him are leading the lemmings to the cliff and maximizing the pain that the collapse will cause.

Whoa ... a blast from the past.
No reason to think that the future will be worse . Depends on your definition of worse. I think a McMansionless Escaladeless future is better ... definitely not bigger. Wasteful consumption comes really close to my definition of a sin.
He is an idiot though ... not even an attempt to discuss how materials should be recycled.

As many of us that can should scrap personal transport ASAP and start to insist on full scale development of renewables.

I would like to see 100 or more high volume PV plants and another 100 wind turbine plants producing product within 3 years. Scale this stuff up 100 fold.

At the same time, cancel all interstate construction projects and fire up the steel plants to extrude new rail lines.

Also turn a couple automobile factories into rail coach factories, hell most of the auto plants are right on rail lines anyway. Start building locomotives and coachs instead of SUV's.

I am turning my back on doomism and am going to put my energies into screaming for change and will do so until the mob comes to burn me down and take my stockpiled food!

Go Baby Go!
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

To his credit he is not banking on abiotic oil. A stillborn theory that some insist is valid.
Not that the wonders of cold sea water solving our energy problems are a radical departure from the same mindset.
