Americans For Energy Independence

I heard this link while listening to Air America today. Neat site, not sure if all of you folks were aware of it or not. Figured I'd throw it out there.

Hmm, I did a quick look in the forums and didn't find much comment on peak oil... just a bunch of crap about H2. Maybe they need a little education...

I was thinking the same thing, the assumption is that we have a full 20 years to convert. And of course assuming we can continue at a current pace of growth to keep the banks/economy happy. I think they could use a visit from some of the folks here. Looks like a relatively new site.

Let's not try to derail them though, the effort seems noble but a bit misguilded. I think they can benefit from the preparing forum.

We need a moderate. They are looking for solutions. Telling them to give up is counter productive and I don't believe in that anyway. We need someone to tell them it's possible but will likely fail or be incredibly difficult at the very least.

Definitly give them the link to Netflix EOS. I don't think it's doomer... just very depressing.

I don't know if I'm a moderate or the best person for the job, but I joined the group, and wouldn't mind doing it.

United States as energy exporter: Is it “fake news”?

Postby AdamB » Sun 04 Mar 2018, 22:17:32

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')
Much of the media coverage of the American energy industry implies that America has become a vast and growing exporter of energy to the rest of the world and that this has created a sort of "energy dominance" for the country on the world stage. Whether such reports qualify as so-called "fake news" depends very much on three things: 1) How one defines "fake news," 2) whether writers of such reports qualify the words "imports" and "exports" with the word "net" and 3) which energy sources they are discussing. In this case let's define "fake news" as claims that official, publicly available statistics show plainly to be false. By that criterion anyone who claims that the United States is a net energy exporter would certainly be guilty of propagating "fake news." Energy statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) show that in

As explained in my detailed post under this article in the "Peak Oil News" it is actually a great example of fake news the author rails against. He claims US refineries have little use for light oil/condensate. No, they do not. Nor do they utilize heavy oil as he claims…domestic or imported. As reported by the EIA our refineries have been processing blended oil for decades. Blended oils with an average gravity of 32 API +/- 1 API. That is the gravity that is optimum for US refineries…not heavy oils. In fact, before the boom in domestic light oil/condensate production the US, our refineries had to import significant volumes of light oil/condensate for blending.
