I'm a bit curious why this forum is so under used. It seems to me that the best thing we can do is try to conserve what's left to buy us time to provide a soft landing. I know we can't conserve our way out of peak oil, but we can certainly buy a few more years of time to power down.
Planning for the future is great, but that forum seems to assume that everyone is screwed and has to move to the country and fend for themselves.
I think that we are looking at a long, slow slide into darkness and we should be doing whatever it takes to hold that off. When the reality of peak oil hits the general populace, most people will mistakenly think we can conserve our way out of the problem. While that won't work, it will buy us very precious time.
How can we encourage this?
