Ruppert WAS in fact an effective rabble rouser. I was quite astonished to view his documentary opus Collapse, that was what brought the concept of Peak Oil into my conciousness in 2010.

It took me a little while to understand that as a functioning social person he was marginal at best. He appeared to be much admired for his insights, but he could concieve of no scenario other than fast crash, and predicted imminent and approaching collapse several times. When his final prediction did not materialize, he ate a bullet.

By then I had formed my own opinion, which is that a system of 7.5+ billion people does not do anything abruptly. It will slowly decline, perhaps not as slowly as it grew, but certainly over a few decades. The Long Emergency expresses it best, and may possibly be the only true insight Kunstler ever had.

But all of his data was merely regurgitated from elsewhere. He didn't originate limits to growth or overshoot. He just wrapped it in the human-interest story of a broken alcoholic chronic smoker in a dark room with an overhead light.

BTW, in today's #MeToo climate that incident he had with a woman would have destroyed what little of a positive reputation he had.

I will clarify for the learning-impaired and context-blind.

"So was it really suicide?" implies that Ruppert was murdered and the suicide note, etc... were all faked to make it look like suicide. I said nothing about peak oil being or not being a conspiracy theory.

What peak oil is however, at least the doom component, is still in the future.

Resurrecting dead doomers and their flawed predictions, to breath new life in them, is surely a sign of desperation in finding news of our impending doom.

I remember he got me into all this 911 conspiracy stuff and peak oil around 2005. I think he made a few bad assumptions and got carried away with all the speculation of what goes on behind the scenes. I followed a similar path to him and got in trouble with the conspiracy stuff. Thankfully I made to through to the other side and am doing better than ever now. Ruppert, however, didn't make it through to the other side. RIP.

I don't see that he got anything outright wrong. He was just premature in his timeline. Is 911 or CIA drug running conspiracy theory? I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. To me these two examples are NOT.

He wasn't and those who think he was should be on heavy meds.

If you don't believe me, go reach out to Carolyn Baker, whom he confided in his suicidal thoughts prior to leaving the suicide note.

People who lose close friends and family members like this do not appreciate their deaths being exploited to further a political agenda. It's true for Ruppert and true for the Sandy Hook victims (ala Alex Jones).
