The Democrats were a disgrace last night - their demeanor was that of a spoiled child who didn't get the toy it wanted from the toy store.

The rebuttal speech was essentially, Trump is a racist repeated in several different ways. That might work with the 50 people listening to Joe Kennedy III, but you are insulting every single person who voted for Trump, because you are in effect calling them racist as well. Like Hillary's deplorable remark, that caused her to lose, not gain votes.

Are the Democrats trying to revive the Kennedy dynasty? This guy was no JFK if that is their plan.

Something else that was appalling during the SOTUS. When the historic low unemployment levels for black and Hispanic members was pointed out as a positive, the Democrats couldn't even be bothered to clap, much less stand for that. That should be frankly embarrassing to the Democrats.

But back to the SOTUS. Trump hit on the successes we have had as a nation and the exceptional people that we are. The Americans he brought into the chamber and talked about at length concerning courage, hard work, and struggle were a very positive picture. A very Reaganesqe speech. In large part a president attempts to inspire and the speech didn't fail in that category.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('charmcitysking', 'T')he Democrats were a disgrace last night - their demeanor was that of a spoiled child who didn't get the toy it wanted from the toy store.

And this is different than since Trump was elected, how?

I'm not saying this administration is any great prize, but if the GOP behaved the way the dems have been behaving, there would be endless crying and moaning about how "unfair" that was in the MSM, and of course, in the left wing news outlets. Funny how that works.

(Example, if someone from the center made a calm, rational, critical comment about an Obama policy, they were often quickly labeled a racist, a hater, etc. I know, because it happened to me repeatedly, even on supposedly politically neutral internet news outlets).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

The wife and I watched every word. My strongest impressions were of Trump's rivals, I believe the speech was both conventional and R party line. Nancy Pelosi looked like she had been sucking on lemons. Chuck Schumer and Marco Rubio were completely expressionless, displaying niether approval or disapproval as they watched for Trump to make an exploitable mistake.

The problem is, all of them want the power that Trump has, and that's the real prize in Washington. Ultimately Clinton lost to Trump because she wanted more money and he wanted more power. 2020 will be an interesting election.

Its hard to imagine a guy like Joe Kennedy III with all the money and breeding and education he has wouldn't be smart enough to make sure his face was clean before going on national TV. :)

For heavens sake, man. GO wash your face before you go on national TV!!!!

No different whatsoever and you make excellent points - particularly how republicans would be crucified in the liberal media if the tables were turned.

I don't identify as a republican, but I find it quite endearing to see democrats continually trying to beat Trump at his own game (by being exceptionally petty) and failing miserably at it. The harder they try, the better they make him look.

The State of the Union is pretty much the same as the first time I saw such, while studying Civics in Jr HS. That would be that the politicians in Washington are busy gathering cash and personal possessions, while maintaining the facade of serving the taxpayers.

R or D doesn't really make any difference to the rest of us, whose purpose is to pay taxes.
