$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', 'W')hat we perceive to be real is real to us. Sorry to get all philosophical on you guys haha
Yeah, you've already mentioned how believing stuff is good enough for you, I mean really it is a bit difficult, critical thinking, using and understanding numbers and science and facts and history and stuff, so stick with it I suppose...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('charmcitysking', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AdamB', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('charmcitysking', 'I') came after watching Ruppert's "Collapse" thinking TEOTWAWKI was imminent.
SUCKER!!!!!
Haha, I’ll admit it.
But in fairness to MCR, he certainly did educate me to some extent.
Well, in all honesty, he educated me as well.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('charmcitysking', '
') Before I watched that movie and started hanging around this site, I had no idea the extent to which our lives depend on the gooey black substance that comes out of the ground. Modern medicine, agriculture, plastics, you name it. I really never understand that “war for oil” talking point until I started reading around this site.

Yep, an attitude suitable for winning Darwin awards.
I believe I can fly...
I believe I can touch the sky...
think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away…
I believe I can...wooop!

Good one! Yeah, when Onlooker admitted that belief was all he needed when it comes to topics he knew nothing about it, it was just one more data point of what has been suspected all along about how many peak oilers come to the topic, and by extension, doom. They want it to happen, they BELIEVE humans are bad, they believe the social systems are set up to fail, people deserve to die, maybe they feel guilty about something in their own existence, and they cast about for rationalizations to back up their feelings.
I also suspect that they break into different categories based on age. The older ones, already building towards a more conservative view, confronting not just their feelings towards humanity in general but the looming end of their own existence, and the younger ones who don't have that feeling of mortality lurking right around the next medical exam corner. They are focused on the good that can be done to fix all these perceived evils, if they can just get some permaculture going locally, or teach some folks it is better to bicycle than to SUV, or whatever.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '
')what we perceive to be the truth is the truth to each one of us.
That's only true if you never assimilate new data and shift your viewpoints accordingly. Epistemic closure is the real epidemic of the internet, unfortunately.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '
')You also have NO conclusive basis to determine the Etp as invalid
Forcing people into proving a negative is a classic logical fallacy. ETP falls within occam's razor. The burden of proof is on ETP.
But if we need to invalidate it, the current price is doing that day by day. To think otherwise is to be intentionally ignorant of the facts. (You know, the assimilating new data thing from above.)
So if you want to be respected rather than being the butt of animated gifs, then you have to demonstrate a capacity to learn, to assimilate new data, rather than just linking to zerohedge and accusing this or that of being an MSM conspiracy. Zerohedge is not new data. It's just pre-baked doomer-porn.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', 'G')lad you enjoyed the cartoon images. Never said I just believe what I want.
Yes. You did. You said you believed the etp equation, and admittedly not knowing enough about it, or math, or properly evaluate it yourself.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '
') I said we ALL are perceiving creatures and what we perceive to be the truth is the truth to each one of us.
Nope. That wasn't what you said back when we discovered that you were only a believer. You should go look it up, just to refresh your memory, otherwise you run the risk of just being another pstarr, making up stuff as you go along, and not caring that it denies what you said the day before, history, facts, reality, etc etc. Admittedly, him doing it might be related to his...hobbies....BBWWAHHAAHHAAHAAA!!! but still, you don't want to develop that reputation.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '
')You also have NO conclusive basis to determine the Etp as invalid as you are NOT trained to do so.
Again, incorrect. I can do least square fits same as anyone else who uses them professionally, and understand what it means when you
pretend they are predictive. It should be noted that short on this website said the same thing. I am familiar with approximately 19,000 oil fields contained within the IHS database, none of which list have a single 84% recovery factor claimed at the P2 level. Short claims it has already happened all over the place with these depleted oil fields, but it hasn't. Short made it up because he couldn't be bothered to collect the data to find out, or ask an appropriate professional who does have the information to check for him. I am familiar with the concepts of exploratory data analysis and folks making the mistake of correlation and causation, and am paid to test concepts during a technical review to make sure an author isn't doing it. Short is.
And last but not least, I am able to examine the empirical results of the equation, as contained within the bet short made. He used it to predict something, and got it wrong when he had a 50/50 chance of winning. So the random number generator can't even determine a statistical bias in the equivalent of a coin flip. And now short is apparently welshing on the bet, because....<apply some logic here Onlooker>....his random number generator is just that.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '
') So, you perceive it to be erroneous. and accept that as your truth. So your beliefs are no more valid empirically than mine as beliefs cannot be measured empirically. Wake me up when you can recruit someone who can critique the Etp from the standpoint of knowledge and expertise.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 's')o why are you here asgy?
I am here now mostly for sh@ts and giggles (as oft repeated) and to harass the denier/cornies. I used to come to learn about oil depletion. Now I know everything I need to know, my education is over.
Oh, I think you disprove that concept about every time you post nowadays.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', '[')i]JUST Believe. The Etp analysis is consistent with real world events and trends. So not just wanton belief
AdamB used to post occasionally when he interned at Chesapeake Energy. Now it's 24/7 as a peakoil.com volunteer

The proper term for that is troll and with a mission-statement like that you should be perma-banned.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'N')ow I get to have a fun!
Every keystroke you make only demonstrates your ignorance. If you call that fun, so be it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('baha', 'A')nd since I am in a mood I will say...
Pstarr can be annoying. He wants to sit on the sidelines and criticize. But he's been around long enough to have some creds.
ASG and AdamB are two young upstarts who are just annoying. You may feel justified in your constant attacks but your not gaining any influence around here.
Yes, and I admit, I have willingly joined in the fray. I will try to do better. We are not setting a good example for the lurkers and potential new members.
