Shipping Lines Need to Alert Crews to Dangers of Plague if Visiting Madagascar
Image
MADAGASCAR – The recent outbreak of plague has led to calls from international authorities for shipping lines with vessels that visit the country to pay especial care to the health of their crews and to be on high alert for any signs of infection in any of their sailors as there is great concern that the outbreak may spread off the island and onto the African continent.

Plague outbreak feared OUT OF CONTROL as police forced to SEIZE infected bodies
https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world- ... -Pneumonic
Madagascar remains ravaged by the pneumonic plague that is believed to have killed more than 143 people across the African island.

Cases have risen by 8% in just one week and scientists frantically working to make sure the airborne infection doesn’t spread to mainland Africa.

Aid workers on the ground have now revealed their battle with the plague.

They spoke out about how some families are refusing to hand over infected bodies, and other victims are refusing to go to the doctor. 8O

Nine countries are now on high alert amid fears the plague could go global.

Black Death latest: Malawi on alert as Madagascar’s plague outbreak threatens to SPREAD

Image

Some Malagasy are taking steps to prevent infection as the pneumonic plague spreads rapidly in urban areas across Madagascar. (Henitsoa Rafalia/Anadolu Agency)

In the streets of Madagascar’s capital city, the plague is a ghost. Patients stay hidden away in hospitals or are at home, where some are keeping their illness a secret.

They fear death but, more than that, what happens after death — the anonymous mass grave that many patients believe is their inevitable fate.

The pneumonic plague — a relative of the bubonic plague, or Black Plague, but not exactly the same thing — is a bacterial disease spread from person to person by droplets in the air. It can kill in as little as 24 hours if left untreated. Over the past few months, there have been more than 1 900 suspected cases in Madagascar, and 143 deaths.

Exactly the same fear as 700 years ago a anonymus mass grave for thousands maybe 10th of thousands....

BLACK DEATH: MEDIEVAL WOMEN GOT SHORTER AFTER PLAGUE RAVAGED LONDON 700 YEARS AGO
BY KRISTIN HUGO ON 11/10/17 AT 11:03 AM

In the mid-1300’s, the black plague killed millions, wiping out an estimated 30-60 percent of the European population. Now, a bioarchaeologist has found another surprising outcome: women got shorter after the plague.

Sharon DeWitte, from the University of South Carolina studied and measured the bones of Europeans before and after the bubonic plague and, as she writes in the American Journal of Human Biology, found that women got shorter on average.

After the plague, the European population became healthier on average. With fewer people to feed, there was more food to go around, and fewer people competing for jobs, meaning workers were paid better. (However, DeWitte notes to Forbes that the Black Death was in no way a blessing; tragic deaths and lasting psychological trauma should not be forgotten.)

Post-Black Death: a ‘golden age’ for medieval women?
In the 150 years after the Black Death halved London’s population, women enjoyed new economic power in the city. Caroline Barron asks whether this era truly was a ‘golden age’ for English women...

http://outbreaknewstoday.com/madagascar ... ber-44279/

From 1 August to 10 November 2017, a cumulative total of 2,119 confirmed, probable and suspected cases of plague, including 171 deaths (case fatality rate 8%), have been reported from 55 of 114 (48%) districts in Madagascar. Analamanga Region has been the most affected, with 72% of all recorded cases.

Seventy six percent of cases have been classified as pneumonic and 15 percent were bubonic.

Based on available information and response measures implemented to date, the potential risk of further spread of plague at national level remains high. The risk of international spread is mitigated by the short incubation period of pneumonic plague, implementation of exit screening measures and advice to traveller to Madagascar, and scaling up of preparedness and operational readiness activities in neighboring Indian Ocean islands and other southern and east African countries. The overall global risk is considered to be low.

The Eternal Return of the Plague

The plague conjures up images of the medieval Black Death, and perhaps the vaguely reassuring sense that, in the developed world, such dangers are a scourge of the past. But, as the recent outbreak in Madagascar makes clear, the upper hand humans have over the plague today is tenuous and almost certainly transient....

And yet on Nov. 3rd, you posted a graph predicting over 4600 reported cases by now.

So maybe all the big colored fonts and artwork is a bit overdone? Apparently not, if the purposes is fun with FUD instead of reporting information.

I'm not saying any of this is good. Just that like in the past (with Ebola or San Paulo drought, for example), the exaggeration and faux alarm is only good for doomer porn lovers.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

WHO graph looks good ...

http://www.who.int/csr/don/15-november- ... gascar/en/

The number of new cases and hospitalizations of patients due to plague is declining in Madagascar. The last confirmed bubonic case was reported on 24 October and the last confirmed pneumonic case was reported on 28 October.

Since plague is endemic to parts of Madagascar, WHO expects more cases to be reported until the end of the typical plague season in April 2018. It is therefore important that control measures continue through to the end of the plague season...

I looked at the dailymail a bit to get a sense of it. I really liked the girly pictures -- probably helps sell it in the tabloid aisle, but a serious source? Even you should know better than that.

How about any serious paper or channel like the NYT, the WSJ, The Guardian, the BBC, the Christian Science Monitor, even MSNBC at least report the news credibly -- even if with a political slant.

But they aren't reporting on the "facts" you want to disperse, right? Now why might that be?
