Is convenience evil?

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

Evil or just not developed?

So... Then... (although I find the ipso facto pheromone imprinting observations quite.... mammalian.... [we'll have to give Dawkins another shot at this again later])

Back to the poser: "Is convenience evil?" Perhaps postulated quixotically, it is an interesting trip wire to stumble over at this point in the process. Here, all this while, we've been preoccupied, as always we are, with "How will this affect me? How must I change? Will it hurt? Will I die? ad nauseum." We pause briefly to consider a moral regard for our predicament. How fitting.

I suspect that I'll try to take this on as a matter of due process in Psych or Metaphysics at some point because of what it points to and where it puts us 'mentally' and 'emotionally' on The Map. As unfathomable and unprecedented pain and suffering loom on the horizon, gathering darkness and certainty, knowing where we are on The Map suddenly takes on a whole new importance. Funny, that.

In my tiny, personal microcosm, a question of evil always begs the bigger question of "Capable?" I don't yet see any evidence that we're bioneurologically, mentally or psychically equipped to take on such cosmically important questions as "Evil?" That said even in the full light of consciousness of the horrors of such things as DU deployment in the Balkans and Middle East. The rather pedestrian reality, even to this day, is that we can barely think or feel outside of the confines of our own skin, let alone all the way into the massive whirling pantheon of someone else's inner experiences and value judgments. We are but trite little isolated, albeit complex, animal organisms whose history reeks of self-gratification and damn-the-collective megalomania. We have a very, very, very long way to go to even fathom partially the depths axiological wisdom. Those who have squeaked their way past Duality will be among the first to 'know'. Not a given; only a possibility.

If luck be with me, I'll have time to explore this further vis a vis Maps of the Mind or other musings as may be pertinent.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kevin', 'B')urning something, whether it be gas or electricity (indirect burning), to evaporate water from clothes has got to be one of the silliest wastes of energy known to man.

Yeah, you're right. I've thought about that. I mean, the clothes start off dry, yes, a little bit dirty, but dry, you put it into the washing machine, they're wet. Great, you want them dry again - fast. You put them into the dryer ...

Convenience is great, but at what a price. Sometimes I imagine the great dinosaurs running in giant treadmills somewhere ... for us.
