Due to a previous exposure a lot of us older folks have an immunity to H1N1. The under fifty crowd on the other hand are at greater risk.

Just yesterday, my wife and I established care with a new Dr. and took a flu shot for the first time in 15 years. I'm pretty happy with her. She considers pharmaceuticals a last resort, and completely understood when I told her I can't take Staten's. Also, her profile lists her interests as Alzheimer's, diabetes, and aging. All things we are concerned with. Finally, (for an Obama moment), she is cute as hell. :)

We both feel pretty comfortable with her. I am used to female flight surgeons in the Air Force, so gender is no big deal to me.

One last thing for those of you who avoid doctors. Prostate exams are no longer SOP, it has been replaced with PSA blood tests. 8O :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Loki', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WildRose', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tanada', 'I')nfluenza season is upon us and advertizements to get your flu shot are everywhere. Are you getting a flu shot? If not why not?

I'm really struggling with this. As I'm sure you know, H1N1 is widespread now across much of the US and in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
People are lining up to get the vaccine now in Alberta because we have had 9 people from ages 18 to 64 die from H1N1. Our health board is pushing the vaccine, but there was not much push to get it back in October/November when the clinics first opened. About half of our health care workers are vaccinated. Our nurses' union wants to reserve the right for nurses to refuse the vaccine.

I don't understand this, why wouldn't you get vaccinated if you're constantly around a lot of people sick with the flu?

I got mine this year for the first time in many many years. Not getting the vaccine definitely doesn't work, I've gotten the flu as often as not most years.

I tried to get vaccinated last year, but both of the local pharmacies in my area were out of vaccine. One pharmacy seemed downright annoyed that I even asked, I was in my work clothes, guess they thought I was homeless

Yeah, I think if I worked directly with patients I would get a shot annually, but I work from home so that exposure isn't a risk, but there's always risk in the community. But apparently some of our nurses and doctors don't get vaccinated.

A person in Alberta has died from avian influenza (H5N1). She was 28 years old, had recently visited China and returned to central Alberta, where she worked as a registered nurse. She visited hospital in central Alberta, was sent home because she didn't have a cough, then returned to hospital a couple days later very ill, was admitted to ICU, and died 2 days later with encephalitis from H5N1.

Has everyone gotten their shots?
II Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
