In Melbourne, Australia, we are experiencing a growing wave of a new kind of crime- home invasions targetting late model high end cars. The gangs of 5+ young African born refugees smash a large window, storm the house, wake everyone up, gather car keys, jewelry, cash, beat hell out of anyone resisting, take off in the owner's car. This happens a few times a week, right across the city. Often the offenders are aged 15-16. Just recently the gov started cancelling refugee visas - sending these kids back to tent city, Somalia. Still the raids go on.

1). In the US, such gangs would risk entering a home with the owner armed and knowing how to shoot them instead of handing over the keys. In Australia with the anti-gun laws, not so much.

2). Unfortunately, this is where the strategy of not looking wealthy, or even actively looking poor can be helpful. Not that is SHOULD be needed, but it can.

People don't look to be robbing me of my high end cars, houses, clothes, etc. Unless they like $2.50 Walmart T-shirts, and equivalent wares. LOL. In fact, I used that as a strategy for panhandlers many times.

Panhandlers (traveling in a small pack, apparently): "Got any money?"
Me (gesturing out my old Walmart clothes, my 13 year old rusted out Toyota, etc) "Do I LOOK like some kind of millionaire to you?"
Panhandlers: Walk away without a further word.

This is why I love concealed carry laws. When some idiot hoodlum demands an old lady's purse, for example, they never know when the old lady will pull a Clint Eastwood style revolver from that purse, point it at their chest, and calmly say something like "The fastest you can go away isn't fast enough!"

But no, better for the gangs and hoodlums to rob and worse and get away with it, re liberal doctrine.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
