This was in the papers a few weeks back

"Australia has conquered AIDS, but not HIV"
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')ustralia’s AIDS epidemic is over, and the country could virtually eliminate HIV infections by 2020, according to an announcement released today by a team of researchers and community experts ahead of the 21st International AIDS Conference, set to begin next Sunday in Durban, South Africa.

Some stats from WHO indicating what diseases are ravaging the planet. They break it down by the income levelsvof countries. Deaths per 100,000 of the population in 2015:

Low income: lower respiratory 91... #1. AIDs 65...#2
Lower - middle income: heart disease 95...#1. AIDs 23...#7
Upper - middle income: stroke 126...#1. AIDs less then #10 stomach cancer at 17
High income: heart disease 158...#1. AIDs less then #10 breast cancer at 16.

Are cardiovascular diseases the number 1 cause of death throughout the world? Yes, cardiovascular diseases killed 17.5 million people in 2012, that is 3 in every 10 deaths. Of these, 7.4 million people died of ischaemic heart disease and 6.7 million from stroke.

HIV deaths decreased slightly from 1.7 million (3.2%) deaths in 2000 to 1.5 million (2.7%) deaths in 2012. Diarrhoea is no longer among the 5 leading causes of death, but is still among the top 10, killing 1.5 million people in 2012. Tuberculosis, while no longer among the 10 leading causes of death.

Just putting some perspective to the situation. So no: compared to other diseasses HIV, while still a nasty way to go, is not "ravaging the planet".

Careful, I'm putting on my curmudgeon hat 8O !

Ravaging the planet? I'll tell you what's ravaging the planet!

HUMANS, 7.3 or so of the bloody things eating and burning everything they can find. The place reeks of 'em.

Vacine? Too late, already infected!

Anti-virals? The damn things are adaptable, change all the time.

Just hoping they burn themselves out before killing the patient.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shaved Monkey', 'T')here was this article in the Guardian today about the spread of Aids in rural US.

Rural counties across the US becoming a powder keg for HIV outbreak

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he CDC has determined a county’s vulnerability with a recipe that includes high rates of fatal overdoses, prescription opioid sales and searing poverty

I suspect this is an education problem. Back in the 1980's you could not turn on te TV or Radio without hearing condom commercials urging you to practice safe sex, at least that is what my memory tells me. In fact it was so prevalent it became something of a joke to the point that movies like Good Morning Vietnam and Lethal Weapon 3 both parodied condoms as being visible everywhere in the first case and the daughter of Sgt Murtagh starring in a condom commercial in the later case.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I have no idea why Kaiser Jeep called me a bigot. I merely stated facts and a fictional situation that more than likely occurred in some prison in the past. Well, maybe a guard didn't whistle "Here Comes the Bride" but I know for a fact that guards used to whistle at homosexuals. I have interacted with prisoners and guards in the past. I know what goes on, and has gone on in prisons.
If you believe something is true, then it must be true or you wouldn't believe it was true, therefore, everything you think is true, is true, or is it?
