I appreciate what you were trying to do with this thread Kaiser but the thing I appreciate the most about the current level of technology and expense is not something I wish to share on an open forum because it sounds like self indulgent whining.

I admitted to enjoying a good cup of coffee, and mentioned I also appreciate wine and bourbon. Now I will admit to enjoying rich and flavorful foods, and even to that greatest of sins, chocolate.

If you are talking about self-medicating, never mind. But admitting to enjoying streaming video, surround sound, and online gaming or gambling is not something that would lose you any respect around here. I have a few dozen cable channels, a front projector, a couple of largish flatscreens, surround speakers, etc. etc. I enjoy a good newscast with bagels and Neufchâtel cheese and a lively discussion with the wife, or a night out with my buddies at the cinema, followed by beer and politics and red meat or deep-fried food. Is that self-indulgent enough to put you at ease?

Unless you are in a New York shoe box apartment you should not have your Mr. coffee on the bedside table. You'll get stains on the sheets.

Coming as no surprise to me there are windup models available that require no batteries or electrical outlets. A green solution, if you will. We live at the pinnacle of technological advancement. :-D

I never took Latin so I had to look this one up just for you,
Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero

I do enjoy a good mug of strong coffee with a big dose of heavy whipping cream in it, long walks in the deep woods and many other things.

My very favorite thing however is a good challenging conversation with a close friend who will debate and discuss without getting offended nor offensive.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Alfred Tennyson', 'W')e are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Re coffee I have done a barista course and own a decent espresso machine I picked for $20 from a charity shop barely used .
So can make a great coffee if I feel like one.
Chocolate is nice,a guy is having success just south of me,It takes a lot of water and a shade house though.
The fruit is supposed to be delicious though.
Processing needs specialised equipment and meticulous temp control and I only like nice 75% chocolate everything else is a gritty waste of calories.
I have a wine fridge full of chocolate and old Sauternes and will make sure to load up with Cognac from the duty free on the way home.

Although I had two years of HS Latin, that particular motto is engraved on the Lady Vivamus, the sword carried by Heinlein's hero Oscar Gordon in the 1962 novel Glory Road. As they say, if a joke has to be explained, it's not funny.

I'm going to miss eating on a regular basis, not being hunted by other humans for whatever reason, and Amazon package delivery.

I will miss Tanada's brilliance, Cid's end of world sooner than you think, Ibon's thoughtful posts, the feud between Pstarr and Ennui, my favorite thread "Capitalism is Evil" among other things haha.
