Strange Doings at gaspricewatch.com

Unread postby Sunspot » Thu 07 Jul 2005, 22:20:30

I've been posting occasionally at gaspricewatch.com in their little chat box. And of course the points I'm trying to make are about Peak Oil. I've tried to be patient, better than most over there sometimes.
Anyway, tonight I was getting into an "argument" with someone over it all, and the work "Peak" got banned and came up as "bleep" like it was a swear word! I smoked out the administrator who questioned my right to be posting my stuff on his website. So I gave him a little and bid them all farewell, if the siteadmin is like that I want nothing to do with them anymore. If anyone out there feels like picking up the torch feel free.
Thought you'd all be interested in this...........

Hey Sunspot ...
Do they just "bleep" Peak or Peak oil?
i.e. if u were to write peak prices in Fresno or what ever, without the world oil following the word "peak" what would happen?
Pretty pathetic ... wasting energy to power the PC only to find out how to save 1c pg.
Forget about em

The word "peak" is banned. It is hilarious, but there were some people paying attention sometimes. And the site is pretty popular, it's been mentioned a few times on CNN, etc., as a good place to get local gas prices. I just use it to check out the average price nationwide, which agrees well with the Lundberg but they update it more frequently. So it's handy. When they started the chat box I couldn't resist. And yeah, people get all a-twitter about saving a few cents at the pump by driving to the other side of town.
As others have said, Peak Oil will prove itself. Of course, other "reasons" can be devised. And probably will be. Like the "collapse" of Saudi Arabia.

And you should never write peak-oil, or peak_oil, or p3ak oil, or paek oil, or peek oil, or pe4k oil...you get the idea.

Word filtration schemes are notoriously hard to implement, even with regular expressions. And think of the opportunities to annoy! 8)

To which I respond peeak...pe_ak...p_eak...pea|<....

Or complain because you can't ask a question about pink noise...

Or that you are worried about a punk at the gas station...

Or that you couldn't peek....

Or, create a new term, like apex.

As I said, tough to do. 8)

That;s why the DNA alphabet only has 4 letters.
I HATE PERL (but I am only parsing 4 letter alphabets with its regex)

Hey Cyrus, been reading your posts at GPW, nice job! That's what I was looking for. Maybe some other PeakOilers will join in over there more often. Tonight's discussions are some of the best I've seen, since I signed off in a snit. And well done avoiding the ban. Thanks for the other suggestions too, serious or not.

Sunspot,

I know how it feels to be censored. I made a post on the Politics of Survival site (Kurt Cobb) disagreeing with him--just making the point that politicians DON"T get it as proven by their mandating ethanol in the energy bill. My post just disappeared with no explanation, public or private.

I'm Serious. This is my first post. I'm a believer.

I just look at the prices at the local stations - the ones I rode by today, the cheap stuff was $2.50 and it went up from there.

you forgot about good old fashioned synonyms.
the phrase 'peak oil' has become a bit overused. how about these:

Plateau Petroleum
Petro Production Pinnacle
Production Zenith Theory
Fading Fossil Fuels

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('kochevnik', ':')!:

Absoutely classic.

What this REALLY should be is an object lesson to those of you believing in a soft landing ... forget about dealing with the issue in any kind of adult manner, these people can't even bear to see the words on a screen.

And we're going to get out of this in one piece how, exactly ?

Nice! And isn't that the experience out there, they just won't listen will they? Fingers-in-ears and "la,la,la".....
