$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cog', 'T')he boomers, like myself, also grew up in a era where processed food was the norm, driving instead of walking, and the stress of living in a modern society is prevalent.Although most people don't notice it, living in a high technology world is stressful although it is convenient. If you look at pictures of Depression era and before, people were not obese and lived fairly active life styles. Their life-span wasn't as long but they were fairly healthy until the died.
And they frequently died of things now treatable such as infections.
There is no doubt that we have a very screwed up culture in oh so many ways. While you may find the occasional over weight sailor there ar no obese sailors. Can't do it, can't move around the boat, can't handle the boat.
But then sailors, live boards who are actively cruising, generally have a healthier lifestyle, eat better food, have less agitation, more clean air, etc. and so on. Many report arthritis is greatly diminished while aboard. The constant movement somehow is helpful.
I find the stress of city living when I return from the boat. I get used to a calmer and more peaceful existence, then when confronted with coty life I stress. It's as if I have a "control the stress" muscle that atrophies from lack of use on the boat. You know what stress is? Restraining the urge to strangle someone who desperately needs it!
Just been around so many people, so many strangers, so many god damn fire engines, and ambulances, and other alarms stresses me out.
Those folks from older times often lived in relative isolation, no social media and TV. it makes for a saner, less stressful life.
