Costco cosmetics are notoriously difficult to open. Undoubtably, to prevent pilfering. The plastic is thick enough to cut like a knife if handled incorrectly after you do cut it open.
CD packaging requires the hands of the Chinese workers that assemble iPhones to open OR you must have one of those handy cutters especially made to open CD jewel cases.
If the plastic is NOT biodegradable, I feel bad for how much of it we are leaving behind in our dumps.

You raise another excellent point which is that all of this packaging, difficult to open or not, is creating a space problem. Everything these days has to be individually wrapped. This problem is especially bad in Japan. I long for the days in which nothing came with a package. It's really outrageous. On just about every issue, I wish I had been born about 275,000 years ago.

We all know how effective they have been at reducing shoplifting. Funny thing is, we had very little shoplifting before we were a diverse nation. Guess immigration and minority rights aren't really that good for the economy after all, huh?
