$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('onlooker', 'C')og, Ibon is not attacking churches he is simply pointing out that churches have their set core of beliefs which are not open to being amendable. But of course with your indoctrinated and rigid right of the political spectrum views you can only spew disdain for any who would criticize your dogmatic points of view. You are exactly what some have in the last few posts described, one who is too polarizing a poster who attacks people rather then ideas as witnessed by what you just mentioned about Ibon.
It is possible to both acknowledge the valuable contributions churches make toward strengthening local communities at the same time as many of these institutions have political components that push agendas that can be culturally divisive.
I am sympathetic to the view that religions have caused far more death and destruction to humanity historically and that this truth stands side by side with their valuable spiritual teachings. At the same time for many small churches in rural areas their mission is to do good work and good service in their communities. And these church members are focused rightly so on this service and not wasting too much time questioning the bigger picture of their religious institutions.
The question really is if a church is inclusive or divisive. Are they serving the needy and poor more than they are sending their flock to abortion clinics with protest signs?
Churches can play a major role in reducing the polarity as well. Many unfortunately preach divisiveness and hate more than compassion and love.
