Home of the brave

First let me apologise because I feel a bit of a rant coming on, but then again I'm pretty pissed off. I've been travelling the past couple of days for work. I thought I had it planned perfectly. Home just in time for the week-end.

But what happened?

Some fool lost his bag on the airport. The whole terminal (!) was evacuated and closed for two hours. All the planes had serious delays I missed my connection and arrived home at 3 in the night.

When I questioned the absurdity of these measures I got the following reply from the security. The security protocol on this (European) airfield is dictated by the United States, if we don't stick to the protocol we loose the right to receive US traffic. That's why we have to stand in line for hours and pass numerous security checks just to travel from one European country to another.

So let me get that straight. I had a six hour delay because some Americans are scared of some kiddo who lost his bag.

How can you call yourself the land of the free when you have to pass a security check every meter or so?

How can you call yourself the home of the brave if you start ducktaping your windows every time your neighbour farts? If you panic when you see an unattended bag?

Brave.... my arse.

It takes some degree of Orwellian double think, but much of the US population is becoming quite adapt at it.

LOL , it is ironic, all this paranoia about lost bags that "might" contain a bomb etc etc , yet there are at least 3 million illegal immigrants entering the US via the Mexican border every year. Anyone of these feckers could be a terroist. :P [smilie=new_blowingup.gif]

Come on Bush get your head out your arse!

Oh by the way , I swear the funniest thing I ever saw was in an airport coming home from Florida. Two muslim guys passed through the airport security check unhindered. Yet a 80 year old English lady in a bright flower covered frock was wanded, frisked and had her feet swobbed for explosives LOL

God bless America.[smilie=icon_salut.gif]

Yeah I hate these stupid delays as well...

But I'll bet you anything that the poor bastards who were murdered at the World Trade Center wouldn't mind waiting.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Didn't the terroists go through airport security and still didn't get stopped?

Unless they could read minds, there was no particular reason to stop them. Boxcutters were not a prohibited item at that time.

You must not be reading about half of the posts on this forum, that are written by people complaining that our freedoms are being taken away. We are not very adept at it, yet. Give us time.

This forum isn't a good representative sample of the United States as a whole. What percentage of the American population do you think are active members of the Peak Oil community? I'd think it's about 1% or less. Even when you consider all the other websites with people complaining about the current state of civil liberties, I don't think it approaches even a sizable minority of the general population. There are a lot of idiots waving the flag and supporting Bush no matter what he does, be it the Patriot Act or anything else.
