$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('frankthetank', 'I')F you don't like your doctor/hospital head down to La Crosse to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital. They have been researching Lyme disease for a long time and i know at one time they were working on a vaccine. Not sure what kind of yahoos your dealing with up in the Twin Cities :)

http://www.gundluth.org/

I really can't believe i've never had it. For all the times ive been in the woods. Maybe i stink too much or something. I did have poison ivy down by my johnson once when i was younger///

edit;

Why is it so prevalent in the upper midwest? That map looks strange. Yet south of here its not as prevalent.

I'm scared to go in the woods now! Can you get it in the winter? Probably not...that is when i'll go in the woods.

I'll keep this in mind. :)

Lyme disease worse then is being reported

Just was researching almost by coincidence and discovered that this disease is more prevalent then acknowledged and that it is really a horrible disease. So just posting this link to a documentary which appears to be very informative as to the real nature of this disease. I have not watched it but it seems to be the one to watch. http://www.underourskin.com/#home-emergence

Just another piece of information from the CDC website as of 2013 , the lyme disease appears most prevalent in the North East. Hope that is useful to those like me who live here.

My spouses nephew was infected by a tick 3 years ago and still suffers from the effects. This is not a disease I would wish on my worst enemy, let alone a 12 year old.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'T')alk about conspiracies. The CDC and the AMA have conspired with the big insurance companies to designate this crippling disease as a simple acute infection, treated by a short month-course of antibiotics. It is really a combination of various infections, primarily the Borrelia burgdorferi a nasty syphilis-like spirocete that can cause a life-long illness. And require life-long treatment. They don't want to pay.

There has been some sort of misinformation campaign in the past. I recall reading that lime disease was caused by a virus. What a total crock. It is a syphilis related chronic bacterial infection. I have not seen any recent coverage of this disease as having similarity to syphilis. Even the case of Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne which would be an opportunity to educate the public on the nature of this infection is totally ignored and instead we have a bit of coverage about how she had a hard time finding the right doctors. The MSM is garbage these days.

They have probably been garbage ever since the 1970's.

This kind of thing is unfortunate, but it isn't a conspiracy (aside from the usual issue of medical insurance companies not wanting to pay. BTW, isn't Obamacare supposed to FIX that as one of the primary benefits?)

I've had something that seems like mild rheumatoid arthritis for about 35 years now. I've never gotten a decent diagnosis. I've done more good for myself by being persistent about SELF-MANAGEMENT of whatever it is, based on observation and discipline, than any doctors have been, by a wide margin.

More recently it's gotten better -- consistent with R/A often calming down in people in their 50's as their immune system weakens (R/A is now thought to be an autoimmune disease, so this makes sense). In other words, better lucky than smart -- since modern medicine is still akin to cave man technology outside from a relatively small number of medical issues.

Maybe in a century or so if we truly have genetics down well, tailor made medicines will do what would seem like Star Trek medicine now (if you can afford it). In the mean time, as you age, don't expect doctors to be able to do a lot about many "minor" medical issues you have.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

just reading up on effective repellants and Permethrin-containing products appear to be the best.
