The Freedom Tower?

Unread postby newdamage » Wed 29 Jun 2005, 16:23:09

From the Reuters article:

"The revised plan features a heavily reinforced concrete core, steel bars on every floor and a lobby set back from the street and draped in protective panels of titanium and stainless steel, designers said."

The first word that comes to mind is not "freedom" ...jail like, collossal waste of resources and taxes... let's see if this thing is finished when it's susposed to be in 2010.

Freedom Tower project should be abandoned

The replacement of the twin towers by some substitute is such a waste of energy and is in bad taste, imho. Like giving a kid a new puppy after their grandmother has died.

I still think the Freedom Tower will be an abortion halfway through. To me, an eerie parallel to one of the most interesting skyscrapers in the world...

105 storeys up, but uncompletable. Point it out to your North Korean tour guide, and she won't acknowledge it exists...

It does look like a huge monolithic jail.

Wonder how much it will cost when oil is 100 dollars a barrel and the east cost is running short on heating oil.

I would lay even money like others have said that it will never be finished.

I do think fear will keep the buildings upper floors very empty. They may have a great deal of trouble getting people to move in.

This reminds me of George Orwell's description of "the Ministry of Love" in Nineteen Eighty-Four:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Ministry of Love was the really frightening one. There were no windows in it at all. Winston had never been inside the Ministry of Love, nor within half a kilometre of it. It was a place impossible to enter except on official business, and then only by penetrating through a maze of barbed-wire entanglements, steel doors, and hidden machine-gun nests. Even the streets leading up to its outer barriers were roamed by gorilla-faced guards in black uniforms, armed with jointed truncheons.

:-D My rule is I don't want to live in a county that has any building over 3 stories high.

Lucky you to deal with Freedom Towers.
That AH of Berlusconi still stands firm to build the absurd bridge between Italy and Sicily... the longest bridge in the world of that kind (dunno in english), just to brings cars and trucks from Italy to the land of Mafia.

Big deal. with PO coming.
