$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Fishman', ' ')Though I agree with Poordog to some extent, exposure to bugs that can kill you ... tend to kill you. Eat some dirt maybe, or lick an air filter to get your allergens through your IG A system instead of your Ig E (not medical advice)
This is a valid point,IMO. I've read at least one article from a credible magazine claiming that kids spending all their spare time indoors (say) playing video games instead of outdoors (say) eating dirt and being bitten by various bugs are causing a tendency for people to be hyper-allergic to things they wouldn't have been in previous generations. It turns out that the human immune system, like the brain, evolves based on exprience.
Expose a 6 year old to five languages daily, they'll tend to learn five languages. Expose a human immune system to a typical variety of pathogens of an agrarian society, and it will be far more versatile than the immune system of a person who considered an "outdoor experience" walking the 10 yards from mommy's car to the school door.
Now, throw in the liklihood of childhood or early adulthood obesity (and the consequences) from a fast food diet and little exercise, and it's a wonder lifespans are still trending strongly upward. Score one for medicine (too bad there's not enough money to fund the consequences).
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
