Looks like Pops has a fellow comrade in arms.

Yes. Heaven forbid someone try to look at things in a balanced way. That makes them a "communist"!

You do realize it's no longer the 50's. Right?
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

Seriously? Indian farmers are getting into debt due to the Monsanto model and committing suicide in their droves. Handily, this stuff does the trick.

I think they are using another organophosphate pesticide for insects. Those are really toxic.

Are you referring to neonicotinoids? They're used for a few things, including covering seeds to avoid insect attack. But this leaves enough parts per billion to disorientate bees. It's evil stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neonicotinoid

He's talking about organophosphate poisoning.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organoph ... _poisoning

The stuff was banned in the U.S.back in the 70's

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'O')rganophosphate poisoning results from exposure to organophosphates (OPs), which cause the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), leading to the accumulation of acetylcholine (ACh) in the body. Organophosphate poisoning most commonly results from exposure to insecticides or nerve agents. OPs are one of the most common causes of poisoning worldwide, and are frequently intentionally used in suicides in agrarian areas.[1][2] There are around 1 million OP poisonings per year with several hundred thousand resulting in fatalities annually.

Truly nasty stuff. A horrible way to die.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')oday, the greatest chemical threat comes from the accidental or intentional release of common toxicants18 such as organophosphorous insecticides. In 2007, organophosphorous insecticides represented, by weight, 35% of all insecticides used in the United States.16 Some of the most commonly used are20:

Chlorpyrifos (trade names: Brodan, Dursban, Lorsban)
Methyl parathion (trade names: E 601, Penncap-M)
Malathion (trade name: Cythion)
Dimethoate (trade names: Cygon, DeFend)
Azinphos-methyl (trade names: Gusathion, Guthion)
Fonofos (trade names: Dyfonate, N-2790)

People have drunk over a pint of RoundUp trying to commit suicide with few side effects, others have succeeded, but the acute toxicity is very low, something like kerosene maybe. ANd where there has been death it probably due to the solvent and soap it's dissolved in.

And FWIW some guy very nearly died from drinking a quart of soy sauce, and anything over a teaspoon of caffeine powder can kill. The acute toxicity of pure glyphosate is somewhere between table salt and caffeine.
