$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'A') love of one's own father seems to be the defining mark of a conservative.

That should be the defining mark of a compassionate individual, and have nothing to do with political affiliations.

However, I tend to agree to some extent. Close family values seem to run more along the conservative line rather then the liberal line.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'T')he Man has decided here recently to get us all CCNA classes and if we choose we can pursue it farther with a CCNP/CCND or even CCIE.
CCIE's write their own ticket. We're talking 100k+ easily, I think the average salary of a CCIE certified individual is like 140,000 a year. Very, very big money.

Specop,

Your company providing you (free?) CCNA classes is nice. Does it come with paid-for certification (or out of your pocket)? Further certifications are nicer too -- CCNP, CCIE -- but do you have to pay for these out of your own pocket as well? (loan?) Or do they put you into an employment bond (good and bad) for, say, 4 years or so after they pay for your final CCIE? CCIEs are rare, and they do write their own pay, but it means your company would face losing you after you achieve CCIE for a bigger paycheck elsewhere. That's after they've helped you (pay and) obtain your CCIE.

Is it the lure of obtaining more dough for any reasons -- stockpile; prep country; etc -- that makes you want to stay? Did you actually have plans to move out of the city just before the CCNA ticket or something?
regards,
Rostov

The whole schebang is on the company dime. Nice eh? 8)
I have no idea about no compete clauses or anything. Hell, I havent even gotten the CCNA yet so I havent looked into it.

I only want to make more money because, well, who doesnt? :-D

I had always had thoughts about moving out in the country, but usually it was just a bit farther outside the city. You know, live outside the city, commute in. Its just that property outside the city is *expensive* to say the least.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('4StringSlinger', 'S')pecop, as a fellow ARFCOMMER, let me offer you this advice:

I fully understand the enormity of a life-changing move such as this, especially given the context. It can be extremely daunting.

That being said...If your gut tells you that things are bad, then you should get the hell out. Now is not the time for indecision. I truly believe that things happen for a reason, and that timing is key.

You would be running a machine shop [very important skill], with your dad in a small town [forming a family/community alliance] which would increase your chances of survival during uncertain times. I wish I had this opportunity.

The fact that you are considering it as a viable option should tell you something. You need to look at this from a purely practical standpoint...and by practical, I don't mean 'monetary'.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

My gut tells me to go. I'd like a simpler life, and I like the country life.
My materialistic desires tell me to stay.

Ah arfcom, gods answer to that crazy place known as DU.

Good luck man, although it's nice to be stuck between two really good choices.

I can't offer much. I would waffle for months on a decision like that. I would have a hard time turning down that much money, and health insurance for the family. The city has a lot of good things, we shouldn't poo poo it too quickly just because we're a site full of treehuggin hippies and gun totin militia(wo)men.

OTOH, family is cool. Land is cool. Sustainability is cool. Birds in the morning over coffee is cool.

Good luck
