Dirty scalp = more hair?

I'm a pretty clean Dude, heck I even make my own natural Castile soap.

But while researching "Carbolic Soap" (just out of curiosity)...

I found this site that claims ALL soaps (especialy SLS soaps) cause BALDNESS:

http://www.getitback.us/

Now Sodium Laralith Sulfates DO cause my hair to fall out (part of the reason I went to REAL soaps)...and I might even try Apple cider Vinger, or even wine (or wine viniger) as suggested to clean the scalp....but washing only with water???? (egads)

here is the BEST page on the site IMHO, mostly an attack on the chems:

http://www.getitback.us/#sulfate

Now the main thing going for this site AFAIK is that they are not going to sell you anything...other than GRUNGE.

Your hair will be its healthiest if you don't wash it with soap, but instead wash it with lukewarm water for a light rinse, not to wash all the oils out, but to evenly distribute it. If your hair is straight, you can get by using fine combs to brush it through and remove dead hairs. If it's wavy or curly, you're better off either using an afro pic or your fingers to gently remove dead hairs. Yuo don't want to actually be pulling them out of your scalp, even if they are loosely attached there.

Of course, I have long hair so this advice may not be applicable to you.

Personaly, I'm a short (#3 on the buzzer for sides, #4 on 1/2 the top- I do my own) haired pesonality who is under the impression that long hair is harder to take care of.

So your advice carries some merit.

Maybe Doly is right in that I'm more vain than I'd like to admit, but I don't wear make up, wear long nails (other than one to check knives), or go to beauty salons either. :)

Things I've found increase MY hair loss:

Wearing hats. Esp. tight ones.

SLS shampoos.

NOT WASHING MY HAIR _i'll get white "gunk" up there that I strip away with Shampoo /scrapers.

YMMV

I used to have really long, curly hair for about 2 years. I got so tired of brushing it that i just cut it all off, sent it to Locks of Love, and buzzed it to #3 (or was it 4). Now it's relatively short like it always was.

It was weird having long hair as a guy, but i enjoyed the experiment and I think (you can never know for sure) my girlfriend at the time thought it was "adorable."

I've noticed a lot of ladies like longer hair on men...if we can keep it. 8O

I wouldn't mind the loss of hair on the top of my head if it just hadn't start growing out of my ears and nostrils instead. Damn youths make fun of me now! Constant pruning, what a drag! Shaving the hair off of your ears is so tricky. Vanity, schmanity.

Smallpoxgirl,

You may have a point...it seems (from lurking in their forums) that at about 5 mo. most experiance shedding if they don't use shampoo at all.

I think their main gripe about SLS has benifits for everyone, and being a dirty hippie has benefits for some individuals. [smilie=happy5.gif]

I am just not yet ready to "go there"...

I don't know that I agree with this premise, my ex goes for weeks without bathing or washing his hair and he's still loosing it. My dad however did something interesting.

When I was a teenager his hair had thinned a fair amount and he heard that by massagging your scalp with listerine you could halt the loss. Its 20 years later and he hasn't lost anymore. so was he destined to only loose that much or would he have lost more...? who knows, anyone want to give it a try?
